Jokinen to Calgary – Gainey missed the boat….

It wasn’t the most exciting of trade deadlines.   Other than Jokinen to Calgary there were no really huge or surprising moves.   Bob Gainey let down Canadian’s fans and probably some of his players and coaches.   Guerin went for a bag of pucks and the same can be said for some other players that could play for this team.

Right now a team looking at facing the Habs in round 1 (Flyers) simply has to target Schneider and chaos will ensue.  Sure Big George is still there, but the Flyers have a lot more than one tough guy.

Here is Bob Gainey commenting on today’s lack of RESULTS

“I believe this group can get us into the playoffs and once we get there, then we start to work,” said Gainey. “We have a more diverse group of players than we had a year ago and we need to be aware of how to use all those players.

“But the key is to get into the playoffs.”

Now it’s just hoping to make the Play 0ffs?  In the 100th year of the team?   Bob really needed to show his talent and it seems he’s as good at trades as he was at shooting on net.

Boston sends Petteri Nokelainen for Steve Montador of Anaheim.     Now that’s not terribly exciting is it?

The Leafs claim Ottawa Goalie Martin Gerber.   lol, now that’s a sad and pointless move although I think Gerber fits into the Leaf Nation very well 😉

The BIG move of the day is Calgary showing a lot of testicular fortitude and grabbing Olli Jokenen for only Matt Lombardi, Brandon Prust,  and a conditional draft pick.  What’s going on Mr. Gainey?  Surely you could’ve topped that one for the big Finn?

The Bruins grabbed Marc Recchi and a 2nd rount pick from Tampa Bay for Matt Lashoff and Martins Karsums.

Brendan Morrison was claimed off waivers and returns to the Dallas Stars.  That’s a funny one as Guy Carboneau is his Father in law and the gritty forward would look good in a Habs jersey.

Phoenix also dumped Mikeal Tellqvist to Buffalo for a 4th.

Calgary also added Colorado D man Jordon Leopold for a 2nd rounder, Lawrence Nycholat, and Ryan Wilson.

Ottawa decided not to lose Defenceman Filip Kuba signing him to a 3 year deal worth $3.7 Million per season.  They also traded Antoine Vermette to Columbus for Pascal Leclaire and a 2nd round pick.

The Penguins grab Billy Guerin for a conditional draft pick from the Islanders.

Phoenix picks up Scottie Upshall and a 2nd round pick from the Flyers for Daniel Carcillo

The Rangers pick up a Leaf!  Nik Antropov for 2nd rounder and a conditional pick.  They then pick up another stiff to match up with Redden as they acquire Derek Morris for Peter Prucha, Nigel Dawes, and Dmitri Kalinin.  Good trade for Phoenix!

Leafs ship Domenic Moore to Buffalo for a 2nd Round Pick.
