Less than 1% of Federal Budget Committed to Social Housing Spent – Harper Government hoarding Money – November 30, 2009
Those cardboard cheques the Conservative Government likes to showcase at photo ops seem to be worth about as much as the cardboard they’re printed on.
L I N K The Globe & Mail is reporting that the amount actually spent on housing compared to that pledged is near nothing at this point in time.
“Less than 1 per cent of a $1.9-billion federal fund for social housing has actually been spent – more than a year after it was announced by the Harper government in the midst of the 2008 election campaign.
But as of Sept. 30, 2009, only 0.4 per cent of the $1.9-billion announced for housing and homelessness programs for low-income Canadians had actually been spent.
Ms. Simson said most people who see the government ads boasting that 90 per cent of the stimulus has been “committed” or is “being implemented” would not be aware that the money has not been spent.”
Wow, did the government really expect to not get caught on that one? I guess they’re too busy printing flyers to bother building affordable housing for those that need it during the recession….

One aspect is that it’s good to see that the Conservative government is being frugal and protecting the taxpayers money. Another aspect might be that money has already been sent to Dalton’s Liberals and they haven’t got around to spending it yet. Entitlement! Does this sound familiar?

It was the conservative frugality and their catering to big business that drop us into the recession hole. Now they are hesitant to actually put up the economic stimulation funds that they promised. I think Harper is actually dissapointed that there wasn’t a full fledge depression. He seems to be doing everything he can to bring it back.
