South Stormont and Windmill Construction Celebrate Six Years of Pond Hockey

Ingleside – They come from Ottawa, Kingston, Massena and as far away as New Jersey and it’s for one reason — to lock horns on the frozen pond and win bragging rights as the best. On February 12 and 13, South Stormont will be the hub of activity as its 6th annual Pond Hockey Tournament and Winter Carnival gets underway.

Twenty teams will hit the ice in various divisions and they’ll play for fun and for a worthy cause as this year, Hospice Cornwall has been selected as the recipient of all net proceeds from the weekend affair.

Windmill Construction will once again be the Title sponsor and company President, Henry Vandeglind is pleased to be a part and to support such a special place. “Pond hockey brings people together in a spirit of friendly competition while Hospice Cornwall provides a place of comfort,” declares Vandeglind. “We’re proud to be a part of both.”

Tournament Chair, Tim Cryderman echoed Vandeglind’s comments. “For six years, the tournament has brought people together. By making Hospice Cornwall our designated recipient, we are playing a small role in bringing people together at a time when they need comfort.”

There will be plenty of fun during the weekend event for families as well as the competitors.  The event kicks off Friday night at Ingleside’s Lancer Centre with one of Ontario’s favourite country rock bands, The Posse. Then it’s off to the pond Saturday morning with games getting underway at 8:30 a.m. with the official puck dropping ceremony scheduled at Noon.

There will be a winter carnival with dog sled teams, horse drawn sleigh rides, outdoor skating, and live entertainment in the beer garden. To find out more about the tournament visit the South Stormont Pond Hockey website at www.pondhockey.org.
