NDP Hold Their Annual General Meeting – Federal – Provincial – Cornwall Ontario – February 10,2010

The Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry Federal & Provincial NDP riding associations elected their executive members for 2010 at their joint annual general meetings on February 9 at the Navy Veterans Association in Cornwall.

The federal NDP candidate for SDSG Darlene Jalbert was re-elected as the federal riding association President. Former Cornwall Mayor Brian Lynch will serve for a second term as the President of the local provincial NDP riding association.

Jalbert stated that the federal riding association’s top priorities in 2010 will be fundraising, including a Tommy Douglas Dinner in late April, and election readiness. Jalbert said: “ In these hard economic times, more and more people are looking to Jack Layton and the NDP as the progressive alternative to build a Canada that is prosperous , caring, and green. We want to be ready when the next federal election comes.”

Lynch said that 2010 will be a busy year for the local provincial NDP riding association as it prepares for the next provincial election in October 2011.

Lynch told the meeting :“ In 2009,we increased ourmembership  by 42% and had a successful  Wine and Cheese fundraiser with Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath. Our main priorities in 2010 will be to continue to grow the membership and to do more community outreach and fundraising.”

Lynch stated that with a revitalized Ontario NDP and progressive policies that put people first, the NDP can build a better Ontario where no one is left behind.

Also elected to serve on the 15 member local NDP riding associations’ joint executives areElaine MacDonald as vice president: Paul Aubin , recording secretary; David Denneny, chief financial officer; Diane Besner, membership organizer; Madeleine Lebrun, women’s representative; Carilyne Hebert and Patrique Brisson, youth representatives; Trevor Tolley, Bill DeVries , Claudia Peel, Jason Setnyk, Pierre Rochon, Deborah Jodoin, members-at-large. Brian Lynch and Darlene Jalbert were also elected as the local NDP provincial councillors.
