The Ronathahonni Cultural Centre to Hold 6th Annual Smoke Dance Competition- May 22, 2010 @ the Akwesasne Mohawk School on Cornwall Island/Kawehnoke.

AKWESASNE – On Saturday, May 22th, 2010 The Ronathahonni Cultural Centre will be hosting this year’s Smoke Dance Competition in the gymnasium of the Akwesasne Mohawk School on Kawehnoke. Registration will take place from 9:00AM  to 10:00AM. Competition to start promptly at 10:00 AM and end at 4:00 PM.

The Smoke Dance has been around for quite some time now, but is still considered a relatively new dance that has taken off on the pow-wow trail. What was once a dance for only men, has become a platform for our talented women to strut their stuff as well! This high energy, fast tempo dance is both thrilling and exhilarating for both dancer and spectator. You don’t want to miss this!

Prizes and gifts will be awarded for the following Smoke Dance categories:

Tiny Tots  Up to Age 5
Boys/Girls   Ages 6 ~ 11
Teen Boys/Girls Ages 12 ~ 17
Men/Women   Ages 18 ~ 44
Golden Age  Ages 45 and over

* Must have at least 4 dancers in each category


The RCC welcomes everyone to come out and enjoy a day of Smoke Dance Competition, Fun and Entertainment. Food and Craft vendors are welcome. FREE ADMISSION FOR SPECTATORS ~ $20 ENTRY FEE FOR DANCERS
