Google TV Coming Soon; just not too Canada – Cornwall Ontario – May 21, 2010

Cornwall ON – No, that’s not a new tech device.  Just an old TV pic.   What’s new is the brave new world coming to Television as CONVERGENCE crashes into our realities.

GOOGLE is in the process of rolling out Google TV in the US.   We here in Canada will have to wait a year or so; just like watching Coronation Street, but in the future we’ll be able to turn on our TV and watch internet content as easy as we flip through the channels now.

“Imagine turning on the TV and getting all the channels and shows you normally watch and all of the websites you browse all day — including your favorite video, music and photo sites. We’re excited to announce that we’ve done just that,” reads Google’s blog.

“TVs are becoming smarter as a result of the microprocessor and the Internet,” Otellini said in the Google TV release. “Traditional TV programming will be merged seamlessly with the infinite amount of content on the Internet to enable every viewer to determine what they want to watch, when they want it.”

  1. We have been ready for digital media for years(note the piracy rate in canada) but the crtc is too busy clinging to the failing broadcast tv system to notice.

  2. Not from the same Eric, reminds me of Monty Python skit where everyone is called Bruce.

  3. One of my favourite sketches! Hilarious.

  4. …or you could just connect your web connected PC to your TV via the increasingly common HDMI cable and watch what you want when you want in HD glory. Why make it more complicated than it has to be?

  5. Okay….. I see this being very worthwhile for Americans, because they can stream tv show and sports from site such as, Hulu, CBS, ESPN and others for free. Here in Canada, we can’t stream these sites because of restrictions from our ISP’s. Worthless!
