And then there were 2 – Hab’s Season Ends in 4-2 Loss to Philadelphia Flyers – Cornwall Ontario – May 24, 2010

Cornwall ON – Alas poor Scotty Gomez saved his best for last, but it wasn’t enough as the Philadelphia Flyers won their 3rd round series 4 games to 1 tonight for their home crowd.

It’s been an ugly season for Montreal in so many ways, and tonight was an ugly, confusing, and miserable loss.   It’s frustrating as I personally want to thanks the Habs for a great season that exceeded almost all expectations; but geez what a miserable individual game to watch.

Scott Gomez made over a half dozen end to end rushes and hit the back of the net once, late in the 3rd period giving Hab fans hope especially after Chris Pronger took a 4 minute penalty against PK Subban only to see Glen Metropolit erase the power play and probably end his Montreal career.

For tonight I’m just going to keep it brief.   The players deserve a lot of credit especially Josh Gorges, Hal Gill, Roman Hamrlik, Jaroslav Halak,  and yes, Scott Gomez.   Brian Gionta, Mike Cammallieri, and some of the others get nods too.

I have a hunch the name Kostitsyn though won’t be on an official Montreal Jersey next year, and personally I can see Saku Koivu coming back in place of Tomas Plekanec next year.   You might even be able to add in Teemu Selanne for the same price as Plekanec will cost.

But that’s for another story.   And kudo’s to the Montreal fans who showed their support of the team!
