Heather Saaltink Memorial Run chosen a finalist for $10,000 sports prize – Cornwall Ontario – October 12, 2010

True Sport Community Give Back Challenge Recognizes Saaltink Run

Cornwall ON – Last year’s Heather Saaltink Memorial Run has been named one of six finalists in the True Sport Community Give-Back Challenge.  The winner will receive $10,000 to continue to live the True Sport Principles. As well, two prizes of $5,000 will be awarded to second and third place.

Winners will be chosen by the number of votes they receive online at http://www.truesport.ca/giveback. Voting opened on October 7th and concludes October 21st.

The Cornwall Multisport Club is looking for your support.

“With this money, we can continue to grow community sporting events such as our Kids Day and the Heather Run,” notes Phil Barnes, club President. “Can one person make a difference? Yes!” says club vice president Joe McNamara. “By voting, by forwarding this info to all email contacts, posting on Facebook or even Tweeting the link, you can help us win.”

True Sport is Canada’s national movement for sport and community. Its goal is to help sport live up to its full potential as a public asset for Canada and Canadian society, making a significant contribution to the development of youth, the well being of individuals, and quality of life in our communities.

True Sport saw these qualities in the Heather Saaltink Run organised by the Cornwall Multisport Club in memory of a member who was tragically killed by a drunk driver.

The “Heather Saaltink Memorial Run” galvanized the local community by bringing together over 500 participants determined to keep the memory of Heather alive and denounce her senseless death. The “Heather Run”, as it has affectionately come to be known, far surpassed the expected number of participants and boasts the greatest number of participants of any local running event.
