Chair of the Downtown Cornwall Ontario BIA, Martha Woods, Thanks The Cornwall Fire Department – December 10, 2010

Cornwall ON – I would like to take this time to commend Cornwall Fire Services and the many firefighters that were called to fight the fire at Truffles Burger Bar early Sunday morning.
.
Although it was devastating to learn of the loss of this new restaurant in Downtown Cornwall, there was also a sense of relief that there were no lives lost, or additional buildings lost, in the blaze.  Throughout the last few months we have seen how caring Cornwall’s firefighters are, first with the Cotton Mill fire and now with Truffles Burger Bar.  It is because of their determination and dedication that more of Cornwall’s heritage has not been lost.
.
Over the years, Downtown Cornwall has lost much of its heritage, and this is just one more instance where the loss is felt by so many.   But throughout this latest loss it is obvious that Downtown Cornwall has not lost its heart.  And the heart of our community just keeps growing.  Rebuilding has already begun and we will keep the public up to date as information is available.
.
The Board of Directors of the Downtown Cornwall BIA and all the businesses and property owners wish to express their thanks to Cornwall Fire Services and to those who have provided a helping hand during this difficult time.

Martha Woods
Chair, Downtown Cornwall Business Improvement Area
