Earth Matters by Jacqueline Milner – December 28, 2010 – Cornwall Ontario – Esperanza’s, German Shepherd’s Story of Hope

Cornall ON – As 2010 draws to a close, I wanted to share a story of love.  Our world needs more love.  We need to love and be loved. A life with love is fuller, cleaner, kinder, and more respectful.  If we could walk with love in our hearts imagine the obstacles we could surmount.  Imagine the obstacles I could surmount!  I know it is easier said than done sometimes, this is why I present to you the loving spirit of Esperanza.

Esperanza, which is Spanish for Hope, is a white German Sheppard mix who was found with a fractured femur after being hit by a car the beginning of December 2010.  A lady from a small animal rescue operation in Red Deer, “For the Love of Dogs” found the injured Esperanza on one of her trips to a local reserve to rescue a dog in distress.  On this one particular day she rescued the dog she intended to transport and additionally found the injured Esperanza. Luckily for Esperanza she happened upon a soul who loved animals and asked for help in the only way she knew how.  She parked her injured self next to the women and her car and would not budge.

Esperanza was found to be nursing 5 newborn pups and a cat Jacob (named by the Humane Society), 5 months old.  It is not known whether she began nursing Jacob before or after her own pups were born.  One thing is known for sure, not withstanding her own delicate situation she welcomed Jacob into her fold to do what she could to help.

‘For The Love of Dog’ transported the family of seven to the Edmonton Humane society where a local veterinarian has since operated on this loving dog’s leg.  Jacob was put in foster care to wean him off of his dog-mothers milk as this is apparently unhealthy for his constitution.

Jacob is brought back for regular visits as his dog family misses him and he misses them.  Once Esperanza is healthier and her puppies have found forever homes it is the Humane Societies hope to find a forever home for Esperanza and Jacob to share together.

Isn’t this an amazing story?  A chronicle about friendship, love, determination and family.  A story about asking for help when you need it.  A story to help us commit to memory that the most important things in life cannot be found under the Christmas tree or bought in a store.

Health, family and love are riches that lift us up, fill our hearts and put smiles on our faces.  May your coming New Year be filled with such wonderful treasures. I hear love is contagious…spread a little will you?

Esperanza won the designation of ‘Mother of the Year’ by the Edmonton Humane Society.

  1. Truly a heart-warming story…the Lord works in mysterious ways…

  2. Maybe I should of wrote – “If only humans were animals….” – what a better place this world would be!

  3. Ummmm….humans are animals. And the world would be a better place if more people recognized this fact.

  4. Evolution says we are animals; God says we are sinners! Sinners can be redeemed, animals, well, there is no heaven or hell for them. Thank God for His wonderful creation – animals, birds, flowers, sun rise, etc. (the best is yet to come), but double thank God for sending His Son to save us from our sins, and from our sinful life styles.

Geez I kinda missed you Pastor Tom. People had been commenting how quiet the comments had been lately. Hope you had a good holiday and well, I’ll just step out of this dance 🙂 Happy 2011!

  6. Ok, so what happens to animal souls when they die pastor? Why are we the only ones there is a heaven or hell for?

  7. I like Jamie’s take on this. I hope everybody had a Holly-Jolly Christmas, and will enjoy a healthy and happy new year. Just keep it in mind that God is watching you, and may He have mercy on your soul when the time comes to account for your sins. If you don’t choose Jesus, God will be really pissed off, and that could be bad. Be safe. Choose Jesus.

  8. Grimalot: God made us after His likeness and image (Gen. 1&2). God is eternal, so we have an eternal soul. Soul sleep and annihilation are unbiblical, even as soul migration – re incarnation is also. Most New Age religions are influenced by Hinduism – karma, fate, etc. and that is where we get animal worship, Gala worship (mother earth), and all manner of occult practices.

The Lord Jesus gives this example of life after death -“There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame”( Luke 16:19 -24).

“And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments…”. There are no declarations in the Bible that animals have souls and go to heaven or hell. Only we, that are made in the image of God, shall stand before God one day as resurrected ones, in order to give an account to God.

  9. I wonder if the preacher would join me in praying for Conservative Minister Vic Toews and his wife, as she has recently filed for divorce. Would the preacher also pray with me that fifty five year old Conservative Minister Toews’ , brand new out of wedlock baby will be properly baptized for Christ? Let us pray that Prime Minister Harper’s strong moral guard will continue to remain strong and that the pension cheque fight shouldn’t be too hard. Perhaps we can look forward to Toews continuing to judge others as we worship Christ this Christmas and New Year. Happy birthday baby Toews.

  10. Anyone can play the religious card, like the traitor Judas among the apostles! God has a way of bringing such phoniness to light. Be not deceived, God is not mocked. God’s standard is for all – a measuring stick that is for all.

“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor covetous, nor thieves, nor drunkards, nor abusive people, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you! But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God” (1Co 6:9 -11).

  11. Pastor Tom I doubt that the word “homosexual” appears in the Bible. Seems religions just put terms into the Bible at whim.

  12. I knew tnpreacher555 was baiting us with his original comments, but I couldn’t help myself. For that I apologize. If we could get back to the original story….

On a day when my Basset Hound destroyed my Blackberry it is nice to have a reminder of how much love and joy these animals are capable of bringing into our lives. If only more humans were capable of this sort of selflessness this world would be a better place.

    Thanks, Jaqueline, for this story.

  13. Ok, so God turned his back on the animals then? Or God didn’t create the animals with the same love he had for humanity? Or maybe it was a different God that created the animals? I thought you don’t believe in Karma pastor? so Ill leave that out As for homosexuals, it must be the pastors bible includes the term just as it can include anything the pastor wishes it includes.. Any bible that was written in recent times, has the terms changed.. such as the Mormons, the Seventh Day Adventists, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Westboro Baptist (not too far off of Calvary Baptists), etc… As I told you before pastor, you run more of a cult then a church to begin with, especially when you can vehemently deny that none of your congregation “cult”, ever left any threatening messages for Mr. Vakily when all that crap went down..

Speaking of Vic Toews, please read the following rant from Dan Savage – Savage Love, it couldn’t ever be any better said, it is at the bottom of the following link (warning, nasty but perfect language used in the terms of “Taves”):

And Jamie, you should get Savage Love included in your online paper! 😀
