Single Mom Loses Everything in Cornwall Ontario Blaze – Hopes to find Christmas Picture From Son in Aftermath – December 22, 2010

Cornwall ON – Ashley MacDonald has had about the worst thing that can happen to a person happen.   Her home on Gloucester Street in Cornwall Ontario was the scene of a blaze early this morning, days before Christmas.

The single mom of an eight year old boy is still in shock.   She’s hoping to return to the home tomorrow and try and find personal belongings including a picture her son made for her for Christmas.

No word yet on if she’ll be able to get another housing unit and in the meanwhile a collection has been started.  Donations can be made at The Agape Centre and at Cornwall Housing (Pitt and Tollgate) in Cornwall Ontario.

Mark A MacDonald, no relation, former City Councilor of Cornwall and retired  Fire Fighter is helping Ms MacDonald find new digs and leading the appeal as she’s lost everything and like many had no insurace.

We’ll be updating the story tomorrow.

    Hi Jacqueline,

If you call the Agape or Cornwall Housing they’ll take care of you. I’ll be filing an update with more info today. Merry Christmas to you and your family this Holiday Season!

  3. Just to say, I know someone who has economical home insurance for 150 a year.. with some insurance company on 2nd street. Just mentioning this to help others in the future, don’t know how well they pay for that considering I pay about 50 bucks a month for my insurance.

All the best wishes going out to Ashley McDonald and your’s. Hope you get recovered well!

I amy be wrong but I think in the new year Economical is being dropped by the company you mentioned. We Economical and are told our broker is dropping them for a better and cheaper group

  5. Well if they’re better and cheaper, thats all the better then.. 😉

  6. Reg, a caveat on the G&M piece. It tells a very partial story and doesn’t speak for the thousands of brokers, who–like good doctors and auto-mechanics–earn an honest living for giving good advice on vital issues that affect every Canadian’s financial health and well-being.

  7. Insurance brokers motivation is not the customer but their own bottom line!
