SD&G OPP FESTIVE RIDE CAMPAIGN – FINAL RESULTS & Police Blotter – January 6, 2011 – Cornwall Ontario

Cornwall ON – The annual Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) Campaign has come to a close. During a 5-week period, from November 26, 2010 to January 02, 2011, SD&G OPP officers set up checkpoints at various locations throughout the United Counties. The following are total results collected;

2010/11 2009/10

(Highway Traffic Act, Liquor License Act, Criminal Code…etc)

I’m very disappointed with the number of motorists that choose to drive after consuming alcohol, not only during the campaign but overall in 2010” states Inspector Mike McDonell, SD&G OPP Detachment Commander”. He adds , “I can assure you that all efforts will be made in 2011 to curb unacceptable driving habits on our roads by strict enforcement and education of Drinking & Driving, Speeding, Use of Seat Belts and Distracted Driving (cells…etc)”.

Fortunately, no fatalities resulted on roadways over the noted period. SD&G OPP do want to thank those motorists who make safety first and encourage the reporting of erratic drivers to police.

ASSAULT and THREATS

Cornwall, Ont. – A 20 year-old Cornwall male was arrested on the 03rd of January, 2011 following a domestic disturbance.  It is alleged that on December 20th or the following day, the male had an argument with his 19 year-old common law at which time he assaulted her and threatened to kill her.  The female did not require medical attention at the time of the incident.  It is further alleged that on the arrest date, the male threatened to kill his common-law during another argument.  Police were contacted and an investigation commenced on both incidents.  The male was arrested for 2 counts of Threats and 1 count of Assault.  He was held in custody until court the following day. His name is not being released as it may identify the victim in this incident.

WARRANTS

Cornwall, Ont. – Jamie Richard Migneault, 32, of Cornwall was arrested on the 05th of January, 2011 on the strength of two outstanding warrants.  It is alleged that he had failed to attend court on the 12th of August, 2010 on a fraud related charge and a warrant for his arrest was in force.  As a result, the male was arrested and held in custody until court.

DOMESTIC MISCHIEF

Cornwall, Ont. – A 19 year-old Cornwall male was arrested on the 05th of January, 2011 following a domestic disturbance investigation.  It is alleged that during an argument with his 18 year-old common-law spouse, he caused damage to a door.  Police were contacted and an investigation commenced.  He faces 1 count of Domestic Mischief and was held in custody until court.  His name is not being released as it may identify the victim in this incident.

BREACHES

Cornwall, Ont. – Calvin George Hope, 44, of Cornwall was arrested on the 06th of January, 2011 for breaching his conditions.  He was bound by a Recognizance Order with a condition to abide by a curfew and further bound by a Probation Order with a condition to Keep the Peace and be of Good Behaviour.  It is alleged that on the arrest date, he was located walking on Baldwin Avenue after curfew. The male faces1 count each of Breach of Recognizance and Breach of Probation.  He is scheduled to appear in court on the 25th of January, 2011.

TRESPASS BY NIGHT, THEFT and BREACHES

Cornwall, Ont. – Evan Michael Jarvis, 18, of Cornwall was arrested on the 06th of January, 2011.  He was bound by an Undertaking and a Probation Order with the same condition: to Keep the Peace and be of Good Behaviour.   It is alleged that in the early hours of January 6th, the male was located in the vicinity of Fifteenth Street West in possession of stolen property from unlocked motor vehicles.  The male was arrested for 2 count of Theft Under $5,000.00, 1 count of Trespass by Night and 1 count each of Breach of Undertaking and Probation.  The male was held in custody until court the following day.
