Darlene Jalbert Resigns as NDP Federal Candidate in SD&SG to Take Full Time Job with United Steel Workers – January 15, 2011 – Cornwall Ontario

Cornwall ON – Darlene Jalbert has resigned as the Federal NDP Candidate.
Ms Jalbert, a long time labour activist  stated that due to my new career as a Staff Representative of the United Steel Workers, she no longer is able to be the candidate.
She lost in the 2008 Federal Election race to MP Guy Lauzon.  It was her first attempt at winning office in SD&SG as MP.
Being a Staff Rep for the United Steel Workers is a job that I have wanted for a long time, however this job has me on the road four out of seven days per week which is very time consuming and does not allow me to spend the time that I believe a serious candidate should.
It has been an honor and a  privilege to be the NDP Candidate for Stormont, Dundas and South Glengarry. I have met many wonderful people that I may not have met otherwise. I am proud of the NDP party and what they believe in. I will continue to be an active member of the party and help in the candidate search. I would like to thank all those who have supported me in the past, and encourage them to continue to support the NDP.
Sincerely,
Darlene Jalbert
President Federal NDP Riding Association

This is the second Federal loss in this riding as Green Party Candidate, Jamie Gilcig, also resigned.   This leaves MP Guy Lauzon to face off against Ms Bernadette Clement as the only declared candidates currently.

  2. I agree – a huge loss for the NDP. However, I’m sure Darlene will continue to support the work of the NDP as a member.
