Akwesasne Warriors 5-0 since signing with Seawayradio.com – Sink Privateers 8-5 – FEDERAL HOCKEY LEAGUE Jan 29, 2011

Akwesasne Mohawk Territory – I have to tell you covering Akwesasne Warrior hockey is never dull!   I myself nearly got into fisticuffs last night before security jumped in!

The Warriors were in control scoring early and often but are at an interesting crossroads as they are losing two of their key players in Carter Trevisani whose good bye game netted a goal and four assists and Devin Bancroft.  It’s never easy to replace good defensemen and that’s part of the charm of a League like the Federal where players rise up the ladder.

It’s a tribute to the league to see so many of it’s stars rise and of course is good news for attracting new talent this season and next!

Coach Angelo Sanseverino’s squad got off to a great start leading 2-1 and 6-3 after the first two periods, but the Privateers never gave up out shooting the Warriors 36-29.  Most of the shots though were peripheral and not high quality scoring chances.   David Plouffe is riding this winning streak holding on and getting the job done.

With Captain Pat Deraspie out it was Joshua Desmarais all over the ice leading the team with 7 shots and was one assist shy of a Gordie Howe hat trick as he fought Chase Tippin in the 3rd period.

Martin Beaulne (1g 3a) and Darick St. Marie (3 g 1 a) were the offensive stars of the game and under rated Addison Pelkey notched a goal and two helpers while providing a lot of spark and hard nosed puggery.

Ahmed Mahfouz was a -2 on the night.  He and newly acquired Power Forward Travis Stacey kept the gloves on for two games in a row.  Hope Travis got the puck as he did score his first professional goal.

In other Federal Hockey League action the Danbury Whalers defeated Cape Cod Barons 7-2 and the New York Aviators edged the Rome Barons 4-3.

With a few scant games remaining before seasons end the Warriors are atop the standing with a 73 percentage point cushion over the Privateers.

Stay tuned for more  Warrior action on Seawayradio.com!
