Return of Koivu has Happy Ending for Habs former captain – 4-3 Duck Win – Leafs Capped on Ovi Hat Trick NHL SCORES January 23, 2011 – Cornwall Ontario

Cornwall ON –   Saku Koivu, centre for the Anaheim Ducks is a very good player.   He was a warrior for the Habs for many years during some of their worst management ever.

For a not so large Centre without a lot of support he put together a fine career and sadly last year, in my opinion chiefly because of the team and fans not wanting Saku to be Captain for more years than Jean Beliveau’s record left the team to warmer and sunnier climes.

That’s life.   That’s sports.   It’s brutal, but again in sports at the end of the line we remember those that shines at the times it counts most.   Mark Messier, Reggie Jackson, Babe Ruth, Maurice Richard, Joe Namath, and Jean Beliveau.  These are names that Legends are made of.

Saku may one day win his cup; sadly as of this writing it won’t be with the Habs and that probably will be why his number won’t be retired although it does make for great conversation on sports talk radio.

Saturday night was Saku’s first game back in Montreal and it caused a media sensation.   Montreal’s former number 11 grabbed a few penalties; and an assist, but more importantly his team won, in the shoot out, 4-3 as Jonas Hillier put on a goalie clinic as the Habs out shot the ducks 40-26.

Max Pacioretty put two in the net for Montreal who are just waiting for GM Pierre Gauthier to get them a little bit more help as they aim towards Stanley Cup glory for this season.

In other NHL Scores Alex Ovechkin remembered that he was in fact Alex Ovechkin and put 3 in the net against the Leafs in the Caps 4-1 victory.   SJ nipped The Wolves 4-3; LA Edged Phoenix 4-3 as well; Calgary upset the Canucks 4-3 in the shoot out; Columbus beat St. Louis 5-2.

The Rangers beat Atlanta 3-2; Pittsburgh, still without Sidney Crosby beat Carolina 3-2; Boston tripled Colorado 6-2; Chicago 4-1 over Detroit; and a hot New Jersey team beat Philly 3-1.

The story of the year would be if New Jersey could dig out of the ditch they find themselves and end up back in contention.  It should be an exciting second half of the season if they keep playing the way they are now.

Evgeni Nabakov is learning why a good agent is important.   Signing a fat KHL contract that he was just released from essentially left him unemployed.

He signed what is said to be a $570,000 per year pro rated contract with Detroit to finish this year only to be claimed by the NY Islanders which his agent has now reported to have stating that his client will not accept or report leaving  a lot of buzz about the waiver rule and its application.

How many players have signed big money contracts that have hurt their careers in the long run?  What do you think Hockey fans?  You can post your comments below.
