SASS Recogknizes the 100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day – March 8, 2011 – Cornwall Ontario

Cornwall ON – The staff of Sexual Assault Support Services for Women of Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry and Akwesasne (SASS) would like to recognize the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2011.

.

This is a global celebration of the economic, political and social achievements of women over the last 100 years. Society has witnessed many great strides for women’s equality and emancipation.  However, we cannot forget the unfortunate reality that women are still not paid equally to that of their male counterparts, women are not present in equal numbers in politics, and globally women’s education, health and violence against them is worse than that of men.

Therefore, while we honour the achievements of women we remain diligent to continue to work toward women’s advancement and to ensure women’s equality is gained and maintained in all aspects of life.

Sexual Assault Support Services for Women of SDG&A relies a great deal on volunteers. We offer comprehensive training to answer crisis calls and participate in public education. Women suffering sexual assault urgently need your support and we are accepting volunteers NOW for our upcoming training in April 2011. Please consider helping someone today in this vital and rewarding way! For more information about volunteering please call Suzanne Lafleur, 613-932-1755 ext. 27 or email volunteer@sassforwomen.ca
