Montreal doesn’t blow lead – Whips Devils 2-1 – NHL SCORES & Updates – December 11, 2011

CFN –  Montreal had a great game in New Jersey spanking the Devils 2-1.   New comer Tomas Kaberle notched two assists including an all important power play  one; but it was the twin towers, Erik Cole and Max Pacioretty that kept things busy in the offensive end and some inspiring play by Josh Gorges in the defensive zone that made the difference along with star Goalie Carey Price who earned his win!

Montreal was outshot in the first two periods, but clung to a 2 goal lead.   This team needs to learn to not sit back and play defense because it’s not their make up.   They have some gifted forwards that need to be pumping shots at the opposition.

David Desharnais was 14-4 in the face off circle.   New Jersey have simply not been a force since they signed overpriced free agent Ilya Kovalchuk.   Marty Brodeur gave up two goals on 24 shots in the only afternoon matinee in the NHL this Saturday.

We’ll be updating the scores later!

A rare penalty shot took place late in the third period as Carey Price stood strong blanking Zach Parise!

On the Kaberle trade while I don’t  think much of Coach Martin and his boss Pierre Gauthier I do applaud this trade.  Spacek had some value, but this team needed someone with Kaberle’s skills. Yes, he’s a soft player, but with the emergence of Alexei Emelin and Markov MIA the team couldn’t afford to continue to play Tomas Plekanec on the point on the PP.    Salaries for this year are a near wash, and if Kaberle can crank out 35+ points and man the powerplay it’s a huge win for Montreal.   In the worst case scenario you dump Kaberle or trade him.   No draft picks are major assets were lost to the Habs.   Two thumbs up on this trade.
