Brampton Creative Economy Summit – business of the arts – February 2, 2012

Discussing the Business of the Arts

CFN – By 2016, it’s estimated that 40 per cent of the new jobs created in Ontario will be in the creative economy. Don’t miss out on learning about this dynamic sector as Brampton hosts its first Creative Economy Summit on Thursday, February 2, 2012.

The summit will promote awareness of the creative economy and Brampton’s role within it, educating participants and defining how it relates to our community in the business of the arts. This is an important opportunity for sharing information and best practices in this new and exciting area.

Highlights of the day include high-profile keynote speakers, such as CBC’s Jian Ghomeshi along with Tim Jones, President and CEO of Artscape, as well as interactive panel sessions and innovative presentations. These will generate excitement for the emerging opportunities for Brampton.

Presentations by Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning and Fletcher’s Meadow Secondary School will showcase their exciting programs, including digital media and animation, robotic technology and the performing arts. A goal of the summit is to build and foster Brampton’s future workforce to be competitive in the new creative economy.

Running from 8 am to 6:30 pm at the Rose Theatre Brampton, the summit will bring together leaders in the local arts community, business representatives, sector experts in the realm of the business of the arts, politicians, community partners and members of the future creative economy workforce. This dynamic event is an opportunity for new synergies and a networking environment for all who attend.

The free summit is part of the wider HACETM initiative, a five-year plan by the City’s Economic Development Office, the Brampton Arts Council and several community partners, to pursue and promote the development of a creative economy in Brampton. The initiative focuses on the Heritage, Arts, Cultural and Entertainment potential of our downtown from an economic, business and labour force development perspective.  The Summit is presented by the City of Brampton, the Brampton Arts Council, Brampton Library, Brampton Downtown Development Corporation and Sheridan College.
