Letter to the Editor – Mark A MacDonald wants the Old General Hospital to become a Permanent Long Term Care Facility – Cornwall Ontario – December 22, 2011

Dear Editor:
Getting funding for our health services, especially for the elderly and those less fortunate, is going to be a major challenge in the future.
The old General Hospital is presently an “Interim Long Care Facility” and with lengthy delays for long term health care, affordable assisted living and accessible housing there is no way that we should let that building be sold to the private sector.
The entire 2nd street site of the Cornwall Community Hospital should be used to address the needs of our aging population.
In order for us (Cornwall and SD & SG) to get our fair share we are going to have to be united and fight hard.  We must protect and strengthen what we have.
My wish for 2012 is that we speak up and tell political leaders that we need these issues addressed.  Our seniors have paid into the system for years and now that they need it some governments are talking cuts to health care.
