What you were reading on The Cornwall Free News and KLOUT – numbers numbers numbers – March 13, 2012

CFN –   It’s been a freaking crazy last week or so here at CFN central.   This week we’re looking for happier and less charged material to reflect to the world.    It really frightens me to see the depths of some of the corruption at our City Hall.

As a believer in the Shakespearian paradigm I’m hoping that Spring Sunshine will bring some justice to the good taxpayers of Cornwall.

A lot of things are happening here as we prepare for Spring and Summer.   We’re still looking to hire a few more sales reps and are considering taking on an intern or two as well.

We get asked quite a bit about numbers on the internet.   For example Nielsen ratings only measure samples of numbers and extrapolate them.    On the internet it’s very hard to find one true measurement of net traffic.   We have three measures of our site and none ever match they other.  They’re close, but never dead on.

So some advertisers measure Comcast scores, some love Alexa like we do.  Now Klout is being used to measure influence in Social Media.    What we try to do is give as much clarity as we can and be fair.  To compare apples with apples and oranges with oranges.

And with that being said here are your Alexa.com Canadian rankings for Cornwall area media for the last 90 days!  Please note we are including a site that relies on Aggregation in this poll because Jason Setnyk is a whiney baby who if he doesn’t get his way makes up porkies.   We’re also including a site that seems to be using some overseas trickery to pump up its numbers.

1)  The Cornwall Free News  2,492 ( Ranked #7 in Cornwall Ontario)

2)  Our Home Town (which is odd as its founder is moving to Kitchener – Waterloo)  2,824 (Ranked 22 in Cornwall)

3) The Standard – Freeholder (who thinks we aren’t a newspaper apparently) 3,257

4) The Local Seeker Chicks 10,119

5) The Cornwall Daily ( Home of Bill Kingston’s scintillating  revelations)  10,387

6) The Seaway News 19,682

KLOUT.com

Klout measures influence online using data from your social networks. Anywhere you have an online presence, you have the opportunity to influence people by creating or sharing content that inspires actions such as likes, retweets, comments and more. The more engagement your posts receive, the more influential you are. Klout uses this information to provide you a Klout Score that measures your overall influence.

I was turned onto Klout a week or so ago.  Cool concept and interesting results.   It’s essentially a scale from 1-100 with 100 being really really good.

For example Oprah has a Klout score of 89.

The Cornwall Free News scores 61.14 which I’m told is not only really good and the highest score in Cornwall, but actually pretty darn high over all.
