Long Sault Farmers Market Report for 13 July 2012 by Reg Coffey

CFN – It was another hot afternoon at the farmer’s market in Long Sault but the crowds still came out to buy all that great fresh produce, baked and canned goods, great coffee and Thai Food. Nobody let the old Friday the 13th thing bother them at all. The only thing scary there was the brown grass. Unfortunately, also because of the drought we are currently experiencing, the sweet corn was not ready. I know I was disappointed.

We had another new vendor this week. Elissa MacPherson joined our market with her business “Life’s Little Treats”. Elissa is a recent graduate of the culinary arts program at Niagara College and is going to sell her baked indulgence foods at our market for the rest of the season. Just look at her cupcakes….

I started with a baker so I am focusing the rest of my report on the other great bakers that are here at our market.

Sheldanna Farms has the youngest vendors.

Sheldanna Farm also sell produce but they do have some gluten free bakery products for sale, and I just couldn’t resist featuring our youngest vendors as they display their stylish headwear.

Flour Child Gluten Free bakery features, well, gluten free baked goods. If you want to try some delicious gluten free baked goods you should come talk to Mike Giguère. He can tell you exactly what is in all of his products.

Swiss Farmer Bakery

And last but not least, we have the Swiss Farmer Bakery with more traditional baked goods. There are always great sweet goods, soft pretzels and artisan breads available at the Swiss Farmer Baker booth.

So that is our bakery tour of the Long Sault Farmers Market for Friday, 13 July 2012.

I am expecting another vendor next week, Rubicon Farms with their organic blueberries. They have made their first appearance today at the other market that CFN reports on so I’s sure they will be in Long Sault next week.

Beat the Saturday crowds and come to the Long Sault Farmer’s Market on Friday afternoon from 2 – 6 PM. You will be free to enjoy yourself all day Saturday instead of running around shopping.

I hope to see you there.
