David Poile’s Shea Weber Dilemma – Does Nashville Trade its Captain if They Can’t Sign Him Pronto?

CFN – With Nashville getting zero return for Ryan Suter the pressure is on GM David Poile on what to do on Shea Weber.  Personally I think both Parise & Suter contracts will be regretted.

That being said with Captain Shea Weber a year away from going for the same walk it’s showtime.     If Poile can’t get his man signed up with an extension pronto he has no option but to trade Weber and that’s where the rub is.

Nashville is in a bit of a mess right now and there are rumbles of an offer sheet coming in for Weber which is a key strategy right now.   The right team making the right offer could put Nashville totally in the hole.  In this particular case an offer sheet can be a huge strategic weapon.

There are probably only 2 or 3 teams that can put a package together for Weber that Poile could accept; but there are a lot more teams that can put a huge offer together.    While Nashville would most likely match any offer it could saddle them with an All Star Captain with a contract that doesn’t fit their team goals and impede them from building a squad around him.

If Nashville decided to not match they most likely would get 4 first round picks in compensation.   While a huge price certainly not a guaranteed return.

And what that would do to the teams that could trade for Weber is most likely take them out of the picture.
