Fans to See Something Different – Cornwall Motor Speedway Update for June 12, 2013 by Martin Belanger

colleen SPCFN – Now that the 2013 season as started at Cornwall Motor Speedway, race fans will see something different in the Tracy Wheeler Storm Realty Sportsman Division this summer.

With the amount of Sportsman drivers in the area, promoter Ron Morin came up with a system to give newcomers to the track an opportunity to get more track time on Sunday nights.

A new point system was put in place to enable veteran drivers to race together and have more inexperienced or new driver to race amongst themselves.

Race Action with Joey Ladouceur from June 9th!

As soon as we get 24 cars registered for a race event, the field will be divided in half based on the current Cornwall points standings. The top half will be referred as “Expert“ and bottom as “Novice“. The Expert group will be placed in two heats based on the handicap system; the same will apply for the Novice group.

A 12-lap Novice feature will be run prior to intermission and points will be awarded as follows, 1st getting 30, 2nd, 28, 3rd, 26, 4th 25, 5th 24, 6th, 23, 7th 22, 8th, 21, 9th and following 20.

The top 3 finishers will have the option to forfeit their Novice feature points and money and will be added to the rear of the Expert Feature. The Race Director will have the discretion to add extra drivers that finished out of the top 3 finishers.

The Expert feature will be a regular 20-lap race run after intermission with positions based on heat finishes and handicap system plus anyone transferring from the Novice Feature added to the rear of the field.

With 36 cars on opening night, 12 drivers were not able to participate in a feature race; the added Novice feature will provide more track time for drivers and will help gained experience especially for new rookies.

This new system will start this Sunday, June 16 as a complete race program will be run on Mike Graham Masonry night, the photo, autograph and banner night will occur on Sunday night.
