SIU Investigates Shooting in Toronto

Mississauga (27 July, 2013) —
Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is probing the circumstances surrounding a police involved shooting on Dundas St. W. west of Bathurst St. in Toronto at approximately 12:10 a.m. this morning.
Preliminary information indicates the following:

Police were investigating a man on a street car on Dundas Street W.;

There was an interaction between the man and the police;
.
The man was subsequently taken to hospital with a gunshot wound and has died.

The SIU has assigned six investigators and two forensic investigators to probe the circumstances of this incident.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault. Under the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU must consider whether an officer has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation depending on the evidence, lay a criminal charge against the officer if appropriate or close the file without any charges being laid report the results of any investigations to the Attorney General.
Sounds a bit like suicide by police,but yes 9 shots fired to bring down a knife welding teenager,they are not only gun happy but a terrible shot
From what I’ve read, there was nobody near the kid, or in danger, when the cops opened fire.
Applaud good police work, and condemn bad police work. Especially when it involves loss of life. From everything I have gathered this youngster was not an imminent threat to anyone.
Harper and Ford better just keep their big “tough on crime” mouths shut on this one. Their blind rhetoric is an instigator and enabler in my opinion.
Given the horrible tragedy with the kids and mother in Winnipeg, I fully expect our Dear Leader Harper to announce a major crackdown on people suffering from postpartum depression and other serious mental issues.

first it should be mandatory for all police to be able to hit a 6×6 inch target at 25 feet, and not miss .
, or no have a gun !
secondly, there must be a shoot to wound policy put in place .
unless there is a gun or bomb, used ,and people other then police are threatened. Their paid to be put in harms way !
cops need to be monitored ,there is abuse of legal and illegal drugs in the force.
there are acts of violence/abuse of prostitutes .and massage parlor workers.
abuse of there badge in general by way to many cops .going unnoticed. Or not being investigated
for every good cop, there are many bad, and they are not here to serve the public !
