Pastor Tom Newton of Cornwall Ontario On Wynne Government Hydro Rates LTE Dec 4, 2013

LTE“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34). “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn”(Proverbs 29:2).

What do such words of wisdom from God’s Word have to do with the electric bill? Cornwall is fortunate that her residents are not part of Hydro One. Sure, the days of real cheap electricity is over. This was the promise to Cornwall as a benefit for allowing the Hydro dam to come in, but compared to Hydro One customers, like myself, the worst is yet to come. Lying, corrupt, dishonest, greedy politicians have screwed us again, literally! Therefore, Proverbs 29:2 is applicable to what is heard from all sides: “…but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.”

But when will Proverbs 14:34–“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people”–come to pass? Ontario voters like being shafted! They like to complain, murmur, and speak reproachfully, but no action. Still no action! They believe that it is their duty as respectable, law abiding citizens to forgive, and to forget, even as their Hydro bill jumps 42% (according to one figure I’ve heard). I am so glad God has so prospered us that we can continue to support these corrupt, wicked liars, who call themselves servants of the community. That’s right, our politicians. Not all politicians are this way, but many are. “When the righteous are in authority….”–is that the case for Ontario?

Why is there no action? Back to Proverbs 14:34: “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” Is the average Ontarian concerned about honesty, integrity, justice, and fairness for all? Or is greed, corruption, dishonesty, lying, and immorality–which are the hallmarks of a nation forsaken by God–the norm? The politicians cannot be any higher in integrity than the people who put them into office, and who allow them to remain in office. If we want honest, upright politicians, we need to get ourselves right first. Simple as that! First step back: re-establishing the Word of God in our homes, schools, churches, and yes, at Queens Park and Parliament Hill too!

When I first came into Canada, I was informed (in a loving, joking way) that “we Canadians are not like you Americans – we waited for our freedom.” They were speaking, of course, of Independence Day (Revolt Day) and the Revolutionary War. However, now that I am a Canadian citizen, I ask myself, when did Canada ever become free from “taxation without representation”? Or free from the oppression of dishonest people who bear rule over us? Remember King Dalton–sorry, I mean King George. I am not trying to justify the Revolutionary War, but I am concerned about the apathy, indifference, and passive attitude of Ontario citizens. And I am not just bashing the present Liberal baboons who are running the show, or should I say circus. But is it not true we get what we want and deserve?

I am not saying vote for this party or that, but I am saying we, the people, are to blame for not electing the “righteous”, and we, the people, are to blame for allowing these crooks to remain in office. Oh, that’s right – these are only “supposed” allegations of corruption, mismanagement, greed, and misappropriation of tax dollars. Your hard earned tax dollars going up in smoke! Please don’t remind me of the cancelled gas plants, the Orange sandal, and the many other misappropriations of tax payers’ dollars that has allegedly happened. Yes, your Hydro bill will remind you every time you joyfully pay it! As long as we allow our elected officials a free ride, they will go on spending our money upon themselves for pet projects (oh how I love green!), and more.

When you get your next Hydro bill, remember, this is what I have allowed to happen, and yes, try not paying your bill. Won’t that be a Revolt Day! Only in your dreams. And just think, we allowed our former Premier and his cronies to get totally off the hook for any of this mess. And the leftovers of the Premier’s regime is only helping us to go further in to debt – worse than California! A have-province to a have-not-province! Thank you, Dalton! Thank you, voters of Ontario – we are footing the bill, and so will our children, and our grandchildren, and….. for decades to come. Unless? “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34).

  1. You are absolutely right Pastor Newton. I sure love those proverbs. I have a little book on all the proverbs as well as in the KJV Bible. That is absolutely true indeed. When a people are not so good (society gone downhill) then you get a crooked politician and it never seems to fail. When good people do not stand up then they get what they deserve. Hydro rates are going up indeed and so will water and everything else. The sheeple are all asleep waiting to be fleeced and thrown into being butchered. People haven’t seen anything yet what is coming down the line and many will lose their homes and all. God speed Pastor.

  2. So, Jesus was a proponent of cheap electricity?

  3. I agree with Pastor Tom. Toronto (Sodom) liberals and sinners keep voting for these wastes of space. The city is reeking with concrete and temptation, Son.

  4. Pastor I have another quote from the Bible and it also reflects on today’s society and the political side (the immoral kind of today with an immoral society).

“If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.”

    Mark 3:25

God gave great gifts to the people of the west because they turned to Him but today the people have turned against God and He is turning against the people. The people do not know what is coming down their way and when it hits them they will all be in terrible shock. Everything is coming in due time and nobody is going to be immune to God’s judgement. We are going to have an economic crisis worldwide that has never been experience before. This is coming very soon and beginning in the spring of 2014 and it will last a number of years till who knows how long but it is coming. Nobody could beat the power of the Lord.

  5. Furtz writes “So, Jesus was a proponent of cheap electricity?”. If it comes by honest, upright means, yes, He would. Have you not read -“Mat 9:35-36 “And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd”.

Real compassion, not so called fake Liberal compassion, does something about the plight and misery of fellow mankind. The religious leaders of the days of the Lord’s earthly time here were much like many of the politicians of our day – they filled their pockets first, and whatever was left over they “religiously” gave to the poor. The Lord Jesus severely condemned their greed, vice, hypocrisy, and lack of compassion.

And just this about the Lord’s compassion – it was not a social paycheck in the mail every month. It is teaching sinners to be productive, profitable citizens for the glory of God, and for the good for others. Eph 4:28 “Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth”.

  6. Don’t get sidetracked with quotes from the bible, get angry at the quotes coming from this current liberal government about a few issues.

1.1 billion to cancel gas plants
    Manufacturing jobs gone
Borrowing for the green energy benefit
feed-in rates almost four times the existing system rates for wind, and more than 10 times for solar power.AND for 20 years
Plus the usual OLG, ORANGE, no raises that were raises etc

I understand Cornwall has power from Quebec, but that deal ends in 2017 according to another poster to this site.

  7. Eric – It is good to be angry in a righteous way. But the Bible declares “there is non righteous”. Righteousness – right standing with God, and righteous actions for the glory of God, and the love of our fellow man is beyond our human experience. Side step God and His righteous wisdom as given to us in the Bible will only result in only one thing: Psa 9:17 “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God”(Psa 9:17). Isn’t that what is happening in Ontario, Cornwall, and Canada on a whole? It’s not revolution, nor anarchy, but spiritual, Biblical revival we need. Psa. 9:18 “For the needy shall not alway be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever” – God help us to be righteous, and help us to remove those in office that are not righteous, honest, and do not love the people.

  8. Furtz and Eric the Pastor is absolutely right. When you fight for something that is right then you have the Lord on your side. Those who do not stand up for the good then things will not improve but get worse. If you all think that your electricity is high just now in Cornwall wait until the contract is up in 2017 as someone said and watch the rates double and triple. Many people will lose their homes because they will not be able to afford it nor will many people who rent. Don’t expect “McWinnie” to be any better than “McGuinty or would it be McGuilty” – these are all rich people who do not give a damn for anybody but themselves and they sure do feather their pockets but give a kick in the you know where to the rest of us. Remember the ice storm that we had in the 1990’s and we all had to pay the full bill even though we had no electricity. They are all thieves to the core and we no longer have a manufacturing base of any sort since everything is gone overseas. I believe in having garbage incinerated to make electricity. Take all the dumps that exist and turn all that into electricity and it would help everyone and not to charge so much for a much needed system – our lives depend on it.

  9. @ Jules. Having a mythical character from two thousand years ago on my side is not a huge priority for me.

  10. Please submit as a add on to Letters to the Editor:

Hydro Bill Extortion II – Yes, it is in the right of the Freeholder to editor any article that is submitted to her paper, but they need to do a better job of editing so that they do not say what they want to say, and twist, and misrepresent the actual original article. At the end it should say written By Pastor Tom Newton and the Standard Freeholder. A paste, patch editorial is so unprofessional, and is so far below the standard of truthful journalism. Maybe the Freeholder can do better next time, I hope so. P.S. certainly you had space to print all of it, right!

  11. Pastor
Proverbs be out the window, religion and politics were created by man to control man else we would destroy ourselves. Her you blend them as one making you part of the problem.

Collecting more taxes then is absolutely necessary is legalized robbery. The only reason this happens is because people allow it to happen. John Lennon “keep you doped with religion and sex and TV”

I believe religion comes into play on that as does apathy as well

Be careful with your religious beliefs. Religion has killed more people in some of the most gruesome manners than any other atrocity no matter who your deity is. Before you rant on blasphemy, remember “Love Thy Neighbor” and “do unto others”

Please do not give your religious interpretation as I highly doubt you are qualified to express or define what man has written

  12. Hailey – why do you write about obeying the precepts given by the Lord Jesus Christ, when all the while hating Him, and His Word? Talk about speaking from both sides of your mouth.

  13. @ Hailey. Mr. Newton knows The Truth. No point in arguing about that fact.

  14. Yes, that’s right Furtz, I know the Truth – the Lord Jesus Christ by revelation to the heart and life in salvation. He is alive, He is risen, I have a living, personal relationship with the exalted Lord Jesus. Jealous?

    I serve a risen Saviour,
    He’s in the world today;
I know that He is living,
    Whatever men may say;
I see His hand of mercy,
I hear His voice of cheer,
And just the time I need Him
    He’s always near.

    ####Chorus:

He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and He talks with me
    Along life’s narrow way.
He lives, He live, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives:
    He lives within my heart.

  15. Really ? All this fuss over hydro rates. God is all the energy we need and the Lord Jesus is the light ! So what’s the problem ? Right on FURTZ .

  16. Hey FURTZ how did you know that it was two thousand years ago ? Did the bible tell you so ?

  17. @ David. The Flying Spaghetti Monster told me.

  19. And the Liberals ensuring high energy prices wins, mainly because people attack the messenger. Over 11,000 power company staff on the sunshine list, and rates could go up another 40% in a few years. Sure, give the Queens Park people a free pass.

  20. PTN
” a living, personal relationship” eh

Didya film any of it, you know, just for fun. nudge, nudge: wink, wink.

  21. Furtz is jealous, Furtz is jealous na na na na na na, na, na , na , na , na , na ,

  22. Yes Furtz the god of money. No wonder the old saying is that “money is the root of all evil” and how very true that is. Hydro rates are increasing all the time and this year as well. Taxes and utilities will keep on rising until they bankrupt the people.

  23. Furtz the Pastor is right no matter what you say. Jesus is no mythical character at all. If you want mythical characters they would be Santa Claus and fairy tales but Jesus is God and God can never be dead at all. God (Jesus) is just waiting for the right time when He will show you what He is made of and I would hate to see a good man like you Furtz be hurt. Everybody both good and bad will be under God’s wrath and there will be no sparing of people that He will not touch. God is fair but He will not tolerate people to continue to sin. The Bible is not a book of fables but a book of truths. I have the KJV Bible sitting here in my drawer with my Catholic Bible. Gee I wonder if those two books are fighting with one another and in so much conflict. LOL LOL. I had to have a little laugh here. Furtz you are a good man and it is only you who can come around and nobody can do that for you. I know because I was a bit like that myself but just not as far gone. LOL LOL. No spaghetti monster with all the fire and brimstone can change a person except themselves.

  24. Believe what ever you want to believe, Jules. If it’s good for you, it’s good.
But please don’t tell me that it is “The Truth” and that I should believe it too.
We are both old enough to know that religion is a personal thing. You believe in Jesus, and that is good. I believe in spaghetti, and that is yummy. We all take different paths through life.

  25. I like spaghetti too Furtz and so does my daughter. Spaghetti is food and religion is religion. There has always been religion Furtz and it is just that religion has been twisted to suit different people thoughout time in memorium and each person believes in a different doctrine to what someone else believes in. Before our Judeo/Christian faith people believed in Paganism with many gods and that included the ancient Phoenicians (my husband’s people of origin) and the ancient Caanonites (which are the Jewish people). When God came downs to earth as His Son Jesus Christianity was formed. Judaism is all based on the very ancient Babylonian faith of Paganism and other things. Islam came in the 7th century. All religions are based on the ancient Pagan religion except for Christianity – well some parts are based on Paganism I have to say that is true.

Furtz I cannot convince you of any of this and don’t intend to my friend. Like I said before a person has to come around on their own and if they don’t then it is their own doing. The spaghetti monster and the fire and brimstone will not work with you. LOL LOL.
