FAIL TO ATTEND

 

Cornwall, ON – Paul Kameka, 35 of Cornwall was arrested on June 20th, 2014 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged that the man failed to attend court on June 3rd, 2014 for drug related charges and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On June 20th, 2014 the man was located by police at a Pitt Street address and taken into custody on the strength of a warrant. He was transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.

TRESPASS BY NIGHT, ATTEMPT BREAK AND ENTER, MISCHIEF, BREACH

            Cornwall, ON – A 57-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on June 20th, 2014 and charged with attempt break and enter, mischief, trespass by night, breach of recognizance for  communicating with his ex-wife and being within 30meters of her. He was also charged with breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that on June 20th, 2014 the man attended his ex-wife’s residence and attempted to gain entry through a basement window causing the screen to be damaged. Police were contacted to attend and took the man into custody. He was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it might identify the victim in the matter.

ATTEMPT THEFT, BREACH

            Cornwall, ON – Blake Atwell, 38 and Gail Atwell, 60 both of Cornwall were arrested on June 21st, 2014 and charged with attempt theft. Blake Atwell was also charged with breaching a probation order and undertaking for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that on May 22nd, 2014 both attended a Ninth Street Store and selected several items making no attempts to pay for them as they exited the store. They were stopped by a staff member and fled the scene leaving the items behind. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On June 21st, 2014 during their investigation both were taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on July 24th, 2014.

BREACH

            Cornwall, ON – A 42-year-old man and a 54-year-old man both from Cornwall were arrested on June 21st, 2014 and charged with breaching their recognizance for communicating with someone that they have conditions not to. It is alleged that on June 21st, 2014 police attended a Pitt Street address for a disturbance, while on scene they locate both men in the company of persons that they have conditions not to associate with. They were taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. Their names were not released as it might identify the victims from the previous incidents.

ASSAULT, MISCHIEF

            Cornwall, ON – A 29-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on June 21st, 2014 and charged with assault and mischief. It is alleged that on June 21st, 2014 during an argument with his 28-year-old common-law wife the man upset the kitchen table causing it to be damaged. The man then threw a game controller striking his common-law wife in the leg. Police were contacted and attended the Walton Street address where investigation ensued. During their investigation the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it might identify the victim in the matter.

ASSAULT CAUSE BODILY HARM, THEFT

            Cornwall, ON – Chance Lafave,19, Spiros Tassakos,20 and Joel Gagnon-Leger,19 all from Cornwall were arrested on June 22nd, 2014 and charged with assault cause bodily harm while Lafave was also charged with theft under $5000. It is alleged that in the early morning hours of June 22nd, 2014 the three men entered a Brookdale Avenue apartment and repeatedly hit a 21-year-old man that was known to them. During the assault the man’s cell phone was also taken by one of the men. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation the three men were taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on July 31st, 2014.

BREACH

            Cornwall, ON – A 14-year-old Cornwall youth was arrested on June 22nd, 2014 and charged with breaching his undertaking for not abiding by a curfew. It is alleged that on June 21st and 22nd, 2014 the youth failed to return home breaching his curfew conditions. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation they located the youth at the boat dock and took him into custody. He was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as per provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

THEFT UNDER $5000

            Cornwall, ON – Ahmed El Karim, 32 of Cornwall was arrested on June 22nd, 2014 and charged with theft under $5000. It is alleged that on June 22nd, 2014 the man attended a Brookdale Avenue department store and removed several items making no attempts to pay for them. He was stopped by the Loss Prevention Officer and police were contacted. The man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

FAIL TO ATTEND FOR PRINTS

            Cornwall, ON – Julie Bilotta, 27 of Cornwall was arrested on June 22nd, 2014 and charged with failing to attend for prints and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that on June 4th, 2014 the woman failed to appear for prints as directed and an investigation ensued. On June 22nd, 2014 during their investigation the woman was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on July 29th, 2014.

ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON, THREATS, POSESSION OF A WEAPON

            Cornwall, ON – A 16-year-old and a 17-year-old Cornwall youth was arrested on June 22nd, 2014 and charged with assault with a weapon, threats to life and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. It is alleged that on June 22nd, 2014 while in the area of Ninth Street and Sydney Street during an argument with a 17-year-old youth both youths brandished a knife and threatened to stab the 17-year old. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation both youths were taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court at a later date. Their names were not released as per provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

BREAK AND ENTER, BREACH

            Cornwall, ON – James Quinn, 30 of Cornwall was arrested on June 22nd, 2014 and charged with break and enter and breach of recognizance and probation orders for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that on June 22nd, 2014 the man gained entry into a Marlborough Street residence when he was confronted and police were contacted. The man was located by police a short distance away and taken into custody. He was charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on July 29th, 2014.

            Cornwall, ON – Jonathan Deruchie, 40 and Jeffrey Leblanc, 24 both of Cornwall were arrested on June 22nd, 2014 and charged with break and enter, theft under $5000 and breach of probation orders for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that on June 22nd, 2014 the two men were stopped by members of the Cornwall Community Police service as the men were pushing two lawnmowers on Pitt Street. An investigation ensued and revealed that the lawn mowers had been taken from an Eleventh Street business. The two men were taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

CANADA DAY TRAFFIC PLAN

 

            Cornwall, ON – The Cornwall Community Police Service would like to advise the residents of our community of the upcoming traffic detours as a result of the Canada Day celebrations. These detours are necessary in order to ensure the safety of the pedestrians attending and leaving the event.  These detours will reduce the interaction between vehicles and pedestrians and therefore reduce the risk or injuries to anyone.  Several police officers will assist in redirecting traffic in order to improve the flow of traffic at the end of the event.

 

The following detours will be implemented at 9:45 p.m.;

 

  • Eastbound traffic on Water Street West will be re-directed northbound on York Street.
  • Southbound traffic on Augustus Street will be re-directed westbound on Water Street West.
  • Southbound traffic on Pitt Street will re-directed westbound on Water Street.
  • Northbound traffic from the Civic Complex will be able to continue north or turn right and go east. No left turn onto Water Street East.
  • Southbound traffic from the Cornwall Square will not be permitted.
  • Westbound traffic on Water Street East will be re-directed north on Sydney Street.
  • Westbound traffic on Water Street East will be re-directed northbound on Adolphus Street.

 

Please be reminded that parking restrictions will be enforced in order to ensure that emergency services have access to the site at all times in the event of an emergency.  All vehicles found in contravention of the parking by-law, will be subject to fines and towing at the owner’s expense.
