Hypocrite Hart Soaks South Stormont Over Water Rights by Jamie Gilcig

Tammy-Hart-Recused-13Aug14CFN – For someone that screeches about accountability, transparency, and deep concerns about saving the tax payers of South Stormont money, Deputy Mayor Tammy Hart seems to take the Hypocrite of the Year award as her family farm is gouging taxpayers to the tune of a 100%  raise and a total of a whopping 400% to the community for cluster wells on their property.

The township had two clusters of wells for testing purposes but has elected to double that to four.

The Deputy Mayor also complained about raises to council and staff although has not rejected her own.

What’s even scarier is that because of Ministry of Environment (MOE) regulations will force the township  to pay thousands of dollars to get water rights to at least one acre of farmland from the Hart family eventually.

Prices for farm land are approximately $10K per acre.

Ms Hart recused herself from Wednesday night’s council meeting and sat in the crowd giving dirty looks to SSN editor Reg Coffey while council discussed the issue.

richard_waldroffCouncilor Richard Waldroff spoke to CFN regarding  the 400% raise:

I’m satisfied with the deal.  Spread over twelve years it’s a good deal for us.

Councilor Cindy Woods also spoke to CFN and had the following to say below in our interview.

Her biggest fear was where the costs might end before calling Deputy Mayor Hart a hypocrite.

Mayor McGillis was not available for comment and the Deputy Mayor had not responded to CFN as of press time.

What do you think about Ms Hart jacking South Stormont rate payers for water rates CFN viewers?

  1. 100% of what and 400% of what? You’re not very clear on the issue here? The Township needs wells that are on her land? Is that what I’m reading? Is she supposed to give it for free?

Marc the township had been paying $1000 for two well clusters. That doubled to $2000 and they doubled the amount of clusters to four making it $4000

  3. Is is a well or a trough (as in cash trough)?

Marc MOE mandates this yes. It’s up to the individuals to negotiate a fee or the township has to go to court or appropriate the lands, both expensive options. If Ms Hart is so concerned for the taxpayers of South Stormont why hold the knife to their throats financially? Where is her alleged caring about keeping taxes down in South Stormont? Are the wells impacting her farm? Yes, she has every right to gouge South Stormont as she has all the leverage in this situaton; but surely doing so shows a dark and hypocritical side to her character.

  5. Like all politicians she’s running true to form: MONEY!!!

  7. If she owns the property, she should be able to set the rate as high as she possibly can. I doubt anyone commenting here would do otherwise if the MOE was mandating this for your lands. Also, negotiating prices for land rights you are being forced to negotiate at risk of appropriation, should not be a reflection of this women’s politics. It doesn’t make her a hypocrite at all. It’s not like she advertised her wells through her office to cash in on taxpayer monies. No…the ministry it treading on her land with tax payer monies. Last time I checked, this was supposed to be a democracy. But instead it seems that this Tammy Hart should just surrender her own land rights to the big boot of government bureaucracy. That’s just my opinion based on the info that is being provided. For the record, I’m not for or against the pro- or anti- Jamie crap on the web. I think it’s sad and divides our community. But I do pay attention.

  8. So Dwight Dugas, Tammy Hart should be able to soak the taxpayers for as much as she wants? She’s always preaching restraint. This goes against what she says.

  9. No Hugger1, I was wrong. She should just pack up her things and give her entire property over to the bureaucracy. Because her rights as a private citizen are invalid, right?. How you can compare what she votes on in council chambers to what she and her husband decide on concerning their personal property is alien to me. Apples and oranges.

Dwight nobody said Tammy shouldn’t charge or gouge even because she had leverage. People are pointing out that she’s sucking and blowing at the same time. IE screaming about keeping taxes down while personally grabbing all she can for herself.

    That’s it. That’s the point. That’s she’s a hypocrite.

  11. That’s the point I was trying to get across Dwight Dugas, the one Admin pointed out.
