Kingston Police To Escort Fallen Soldier Along Highway of Heroes – OCT 24, 2014 #KPS

kingston police logoCFN – A procession for Corporal Nathan Cirillo, the fallen reservist from the National War Memorial, is occurring Friday, October 24th. The escort consisting of Canadian Forces, Hamilton Police and Ontario Provincial Police members will be departing Ottawa at 1:00 p.m. It is anticipated the procession should reach Kingston at approximately 3:00 p.m. Attempts will be made to update this timing through social media.

Kingston Police will be officially attending the Highway 401 overpass located at Highway 38/Gardiners Rd. Members of the public are welcome and encouraged to attend this location. The outside lanes of both northbound and southbound traffic will be closed to allow more space for pedestrians to safely access and view the procession. Traffic will be reduced but allowed to proceed through in both directions from the inside lanes.

Kingston Fire and Rescue will also be having trucks attend overpasses at Highway 38, Montreal St and Highway 15, blocking only the northbound outside lane of each, which will face east in the direction of the oncoming procession.

Citizens who wish to pay their respects to the sacrifice Corporal Cirillo made can attend any of the overpasses within the City of Kingston, but police stress the need for safety of pedestrians and motorists. Unless a lane is closed by emergency personnel only the sidewalks will be available to pedestrians on the overpasses.

Parking will likely be an issue at all of the overpasses. Do not park your vehicle on or directly near an overpass, but find appropriate locations north or south of Highway 401, ensuring you are not interfering with traffic, blocking private lanes or creating a hazard.
