  1. There’s an old adage that says that if you’re steal something, make it big. The penalty for committing a couple of frauds is about the same as for committing a bunch of frauds.

  2. Why isn’t there an edit option on this site?
    If you’re gonna steal something…

  3. Move over Willie. If Holy Gilles Latour were in the US he would get a good 25 years and more in prison. Canada has no real laws or else these jackasses would not do what they do. His life is finished completely. Time to toss him, Bare Ass and others to the garbage heap.

  4. Latour will be punished. Let’s see how much of a deal is worked out to avoid whatever. Hopefully part of his punishment will include reimbursement of the wrongly obtained funds.

  5. Yikes so many charges is not good, I guess the count is now 42??
I have always been wary of independent investment advisors, their goal is to make $$ after all, and also provide an sizeable return to those that invest. Not having a lot of $$ myself, i’d always prefer dealing with a “bank” instead.
Jules, not sure what Koolaid jar your drinking from… But Bob Kilger is fighting cancer again, and was defeated.
Your rants.. woops comments should take on a new focus. I love Cornwall, change is coming Dec 1st with a new council…

  6. Restitution is more of an American thing than a Canadian thing. From comments on this site and observations in general Canadians believe that a good portion of payback for crime includes the public embarrassment of having been caught in the first place.

Another Cornwallite working for a major insurance company some 16 – 17 years ago was caught in an internal audit for stealing more than $50,000 from their senior clients. He lost his job and was under house arrest for 6 months (gps ankle bracelet).

While reimbursement is not likely under our system of justice I suspect if Latour is found guilty of the charges he could face house arrest for as much as a year and a life time ban of holding himself out as a financial advisor.

  7. I prefer not to deal with banks which are arguably the best example of corporate greed (it is only about the business of money after all). I am a direct investor, that is to say I am not interested in providing an income to a middle man unless it is to my distinct advantage to do so.

Cornwall is my home and I am also looking forward to a new council and the hope that our direction and focus will be a positive change for all.

  8. The BMO manager (Menzies?) who stole approximately 180,000 and was charged last summer just was granted by the crown attorney a delay in sentencing until after Christmas (Feb 2015). It is speculated that she may receive several months in jail for her crimes based on similar cases.

  9. Jim Luciani my koolaid is so nice and smooth and cool and I wish that it were stronger at times. LOL LOL. Cornwall wil never change maybe for the worst when people get their tax bills and wonder who robbed them. Between Holy Gilles Latour and the banksters you wonder who is the worst. Wait until next spring comes and they also want to put up the interest rates and you will see more and more foreclosures than ever. Holy Gilles Latour pulled off a Barney Madoff and Madoff with the loot. He can’t even get a job as a Wal Mart Greeter – he is finished. As for Bare Ass he has been cooked a long time ago and yes he has cancer again and I would not wish that on anybody and I feel very bad for his horrible illness.

  10. We all hope for a positive change in government whether it be local, provincial or federal but the problem is folks that it is just changing the bird cage liner and putting in a new one. Yes there are some good mayors out there but the problem is also the counsel. What is happening in Cornwall is that the same bunch except for a few new ones are in. The old bunch you can expect the same BS out of them but the new ones there are some that I have questions about and are not suited for the job at all. We will see what happens in the next four years. As for trusting anyone with your money – never trust anybody because your best friend is your pocket. Holy Gilles Latour is literally finished for life and I wonder how much he stole before getting caught. He deserves jail and I don’t care who he is or how much money he has he is a thief.

  11. How about we give the new council and mayor some honeymoon time before we rip them a new one. This group could surprise us with what they can do. It isn’t fair to condemn them before they’re even sworn in.

Hugger so far, based on how this new group have responded to this media outlet, that rope may be very short. I would hope that this council would take the opportunity to heal some wounds and move forward.

Courtesy and professionalism cost no money.

  13. Agreed. But before we throw them out with the trash let’s let them be sworn in first. It’s hard to tell what they do when they haven’t even had a city council meeting yet.

  14. Hugger it isn’t hard for me to judge what kind of people they are (the new council that is) and some are from the old council. Some of the new council are followers of the old of Bare Ass and his gangsters. It is only changing the bird cage liner and that I can see very well. The majority if not all are there for their own pocket and not for the people of Cornwall. I can see right through all of them.

  15. So you’re saying having a new mayor and 5 councilors won’t make a difference? I disagree. Hopefully with Leslie leading the city things will start to change. With Bob Kilger gone things can only go up.

  16. Jules… all politicians are in it for their own pocket but some have deeper pockets than others..I agree, let’s give them time to see what they’ll do as a group with a new leader. One thing for sure, I believe that O’Shaughnessy will run a transparent and responsible council. I think his biggest challenge will be to keep Brock (Wild Thing)Frost and Mark (Loose Cannon)McDonald in check

  17. Pete and Hugger I like Leslie very much and think that he is a good man and out to try and improve things. It is the counsel that I fear because too many from Bare Ass’s bunch are back again and who knows what influence that Bare Ass will make of them. I like Mark MacDonald and believe me he is mild compared to me. LOL LOL. I mean that Mark MacDonald is mild compared to me since I have a bigger mouth that he has. At least Mark wants things done and yes it can hurt when you become a loose cannon and sometimes it does some good as well. Things have to change drastically in Cornwall and people have to be imprisoned for their bad deeds no matter who they are and how deep their pockets are. Cornwall needs humoungous changes in order to heal. Too much damage has been done to too many good people.

  18. There are only 3 of Bob Kilger’s gang back on council this time round. I would not consider Maurice Dupelle and André Rivette part of the group that needs retraining by Leslie O’Shaughnessy.

  19. Hugger I know about André and Maurice but it is the others that I am worried about. André and Maurice are good people and I like Mark MacDonald. Honest to God Mark is more calm than what I am believe me on that. I would not put up with all the nonsense going around and want things done right and knowing me on the minute. Cornwall has been in a very bad situation for many years and that has to change and it takes the entire population of Cornwall to change themselves in order for real change to take place. Things cannot continue the way they are right now or it is finished for life. This cannot take years down the road but NOW.

  20. Now that the new council has been sworn in I think we should keep our eyes on Elaine MacDonald and David Murphy as they are holdovers from “The Clique.” Also to be watched are Claude E. McIntosh due to his previous connections to the previous mayor / council. Carilyne Hebert should be watched due to her being an Elaine MacDonald protege. Elaine MacDonald must also be watched due to her dislike for declaring conflict of interest. Another to watch for conflict interest is Brock Frost, due to his full-time occupation. I’ll be looking for veteran leadership from the councilors who were re-elected Bernadette Clement, Elaine MacDonald, Maurice Dupelle,
David Murphy and Andre Rivette. Should be an interesting four years. Onward and upwards.

Hugger sadly the entire group needs to be watched. I think we’ll know real fast, within the first month who is who and who will do what. There are no innocents on this council. It’s a matter if the new ones are smarter than those that left and if the ones returning will smarten up….Brock is the next Gerry Samson until he’s replaced the icky Guy St. Jean. He was bursting tonight; 1st one there like a kid about to get a new toy.

  22. I think it goes without saying that the whole group needs to be watched until we can figure out whom is and whom isn’t doing what they should be doing. I don’t think it’s sadly, I think it’s the reality of having a new mayor and a 50% turnover in council.

  23. Author

Hugger I have this fun little thing I do sometimes. I write little notes or predictions down. In this group’s case I sincerely hope I’m 100% wrong.

  24. I really fear this council and I never cared for Caroline Hébert at all and know that she is there for a purpose. The same holds true for Brock Frost (Frosty the snowman) who cannot deal with people. Elaine MacDonald (this is a nightmare along with David Murphy, queen Bernadette Clément – trouble always follows. When the sheeple have re-elected certain people who are there at the feed trough and certain new ones who are not suited for the job you have to wonder what kind of people would put Bare Ass’s weird bunch back in with the exception of André and Maurice. This is all asking for trouble. As for Cornwall getting ahead don’t hold your breath. There are terrible hard times ahead and that means tightening the belt like you would not believe.

  25. People who do not live here do not have a real grasp of what is going on. Info must be gleaned from living here and several media outlets.
