  1. Kudos to Brockville Media. They do not post peoples’ names in their police blotter! Perhaps Cornwall should follow suit instead of broadcasting people’s guilt until proven innocent.

  2. The Brockville Police service doesn’t release names of arrested people, good for them. But that is rare, most police services do include arrested people’s names in their media releases. IMHO, the public should know if someone has been arrested / charged. Going with F1Chick’s logic Jian Ghomeshi’s name wouldn’t have been released to the public.

  3. Hey Jamie – explain to me why the Cornwall Police release the names and the Brockville Police do not. That being said, I think it would an incredible idea to remove the names of the people who have only for the moment been arrested and not convicted, and replace it with “a local resident”. I do not agree that a person need lose his right to privacy because he was arrested – and especially by a Mickey Mouse corrupt police force as the Cornwall Police. I challenge them to clearly define what THEY mean when they say “an investigation ensued” – I would like to know how they define ‘investigation’.

  4. Author

Rob most police forces release names. I think the bigger issue is cleaning up the Crown office here in Cornwall. Mr. Simard and his troops seem to be highly political in their practices which impacts policing. IE if the police know a charge won’t be pursued by the crown they may react differently and vice versa.

  5. Hugger – Who is Jian Ghomeshi? I have never heard of him (her?). I can tell you though that my name appeared in one of their blotters. I ran a small business in a small community, and within 4 days of my name being printed in the paper, released online, my business went from $400 a day to an average of $30 to $40. I am sure that when the trial is over and it is proved that I was falsely accused, falsely arrested, and that even the police report was falsified (meaning the police officer purposely LIED), my name will NOT appear in the paper in the police blotter. There will be no public apology made. But there will be a small community that will still no longer support my business. If you research a little bit, you might discover that your police force doesn’t play by the rules, and to them its the arrest that matters, not the truth, nor the proof to the contrary. The city of Cornwall needs to abolish this police force and bring in an OPP detachment, or let the RCMP have the job.

  6. Buzzed Bear….Google Jian Ghomeshi’s name. He is quite the piece of work.

  7. Are people actually on the “let’s bring the OPP or RCMP in to do the policing” rant again? Bringing the OPP always ends up costing more than they estimate because they nickel and dime municipalities on extra costs. The RCMP is not eligible to provide policing services in Cornwall. The CPS is definitely less expensive than having the OPP do the policing. Do we really want to lose control of our police service and have it controlled by some bureaucrat in Toronto? And no I do NOT want to get into a discussion on the good and bad points of the CPS.

  8. F1 Chick did not say that The Brockville P.D. do not release the names of people in there blotter. Rather, she said Brockville MEDIA do not release the names of people in there blotter.

  9. Correction: should read,
    “their blotter”.

  10. Author

Hugger I’d like to keep the CPS; but not in its current incarnation; but we’ll wait for the investigation after my charges are officially dropped for more on that one….

  11. Here in Ottawa there is a police blotter in the newspapers and I do support that. Yes it can destroy a business and that I do agree with. Look at Holy Gilles Latour he is finished and nobody would ever hire such a person who has a good mind not even as a Wal Mart Greeter.

About Cornwall’s Barney Fife PD is concerned the entire force from the chief down to the lowly beat cop should leave because the entire bunch is completely and totally corrupted. You need an entirely new Barney Fife force of some kind to replace the corrupted bunch. Anybody who has ties to Bare Ass and company must leave PRONTO!

  12. Trevor / F1chick…..the police blotters are derived from what the police services release. Unless I am mistaken all the media outlets do is basically a copy and paste and a bit of formatting. So, the decision to release / not release names belongs to the police services.

Admin….I agree. I think we have to wait and see whom gets appointed to the new police board by the mayor / council.

Jules, don’t paint the whole police service with the same brush. As you call them the lowly beat cop is just following orders. Like I said in my comment to Admin let’s wait and see whom is appointed to the new police board before we throw the baby out with the bath water. There are some very good officers on the CPS.

  13. ” The CPS is definitely less expensive than having the OPP do the policing. Do we really want to lose control of our police service and have it controlled by some bureaucrat in Toronto?”

I have news for you Hugger – YOU DO NOT HAVE CONTROL of your police force. THEY have control of you. As to justifying their behavior and completely dismal record with “they cost less” – isn’t that the epitome of “nickle and diming”? – when we accept corruption, abuse of position, convenient ignorance of the law, loyalty to people in ‘power’ instead of loyalty to public.. just to mention a little…

I no longer have any faith in ANY police force, but if you can honestly say you would rather have a blatantly out of control police force because of cost, then all I can say is good luck, and I sincerely hope you never have to experience them in the way that I have. And as to costing less … have you taken into account the lawsuit that I will file against the CPP and the City of Cornwall? How many others have, are in the process or, or are going to be doing the same?

@ Jules: “… Yes it can destroy a business and that I do agree with.” Seriously? That’s fucking precious dude! That $400 a day that I make ONLY during the summer months – after costs are deducted, taxes paid to various levels of gvmt, fees, insurance, consumables, and electrical – I walk home with about $90 in my pocket. It took me two years to find a location where I could develop a decent business to support my family. I have since put all my business assets up for sale as I have no desire spending yet another year “starting over”. To you I say this: May you experience everything you agree with before you get a chance to see the ignorance of your words and change your narrow view. I am going to take a wild guess at assuming you also believe we should go back to the days when lynching parties were popular.
