CORNWALL Ontario – New Cornwall City Councilor Brock Frost has taken his facebook page down and appears to be AWOL as allegedly more team cheques have bounced. Sources have told CFN that he cleaned out team accounts leaving Darren Madden swinging in the wind.
Madden who allegedly is the new owner although the LNAH made clear that he isn’t unless he’s approved which isn’t likely, actually hung up the phone when CFN called for info. He later sent an email stating that his lawyer has muzzled him. Emails to his lawyer requesting confirmation that she has gone on retainer with him were not responded to.
According to inside sources more team cheques are alleged to have bounced including ones for Delaney which supplies bus service for the team. One player said he hadn’t been paid in three weeks.
The buzz is that Mr. Frost gave Mr. Madden a mortgage to give Mr. Madden the cash to buy the team even though Mr. Madden can’t really own the team unless the league approves, and that won’t be until later this week if at all. Mr. Frost may be in violation of his contract for the league by signing papers with Mr. Madden as per the team’s previous press release. (Can you see any legal rep telling their client it’s alright to tender monies before such a transaction is approved by the league?)
The LNAH is also staying closed mouthed on this situation. For fans the biggest question is whether there will be a game this weekend or not? It was also reported that the league has frozen the team from making further trades or roster moves.
For season ticket holders the biggest question is will Mr. Frost honor their tickets as he promised and refund any monies owed for games not played if the team folds?
The one glimmer of light are the rumours that there is a local group trying to cobble together a syndicate to finish the season; but with losses estimated at between $100K-150K that’s a big bite for any group or individual to swallow. It would be interesting if such a group came together if the City would step up and give the team some free ice as the deal former Mayor Bob Kilger bestowed on the Cornwall Colts has hindered the survival of the River Kings in spite of fan support.
The irony of the situation is that Mr. Frost blamed previous ownership’s failings for the reason why the team struggled while under his guidance the team appears to be red lining. It’s becoming more and more apparent that he simply focused on the River Queens and using the fan base to get elected. Mr. Frost did not respond to a query from CFN. He was in attendance at Council Orientation meetings that took place at City Hall.
What do you think River King fans? Will the team finish the season? Will they play this weekend? You can post your comment below.
