Cornwall Councilor Brock Frost to Put My Waterfront Casino Idea on Council Docket by Jamie Gilcig JULY 7, 2015

Well he may be the most embattled councilor in the city.  He may be under legal messes from his Nicaraguan Real Estate dealings with Al Hatset and his River Kings fiasco, not to mention sending out a press release saying that yours truly made sexual advances at him at a sales meeting (which he neglected to state that he bought a large ad pack at) but Brock Frost, Ottawa resident who allegedly claimed to have had his email hacked and not resigned now wants to bring a motion to council calling for a waterfront Casino!

Of course Frost is not an original thinker.   I wrote about this very subject going back to 2012 and it was discussed by many going further back.   LINK

Mark A MacDonald submitted an open letter to CFN years ago on this very subject.   LINK

There have also been rumblings of Akwesasne being involved with a waterfront casino locally, perhaps connected to a possible land settlement deal via Dundee?    LINK 1  LINK 2

Do you want a Waterfront Casino in Cornwall Ontario?

With the bridge demolition coming to a conclusion and the Domtar lands sitting waiting the reality of a Waterfront Casino is a possibility.  The question is who would run it?  Would it be OLG?   Foreign interests?  An Akwesasne connection?

The reality is that millions of dollars drive through Cornwall on their way to the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino without stopping in Cornwall and that many of our own dollars head over the border.  Having a well run facility here would impact that and help our economy.    Or it could be a mess that bring more crime and other negative issues….

While there’s lots to criticize Frost for it’s bewildering that of all council he’s put out the most content and tried to accomplish more goals than anyone else on council this term.   Bewildering….truly bewildering….

What do you think dear CFN viewers?  You can post your comments below.

UPDATE

Councilor Mark A MacDonald had this to say about the proposal.

“I’m prepared to have administration look at all options for a waterfront casino including turning the lower level of the Civic Complex into a facility, especially if partnering with service clubs in the community. “

This city had a chance many years ago of a possibility of landing a casino. Its all water under the bridge now ,city council at the time axed the idea. Now they want a casino knowing very well olg will not grant their wish of a casino in Cornwall now or in the future.I ask why is any time even wasted on this casino dream, move on to something that has a chance of coming to Cornwall.

Personally, I would hope that as a community we would recognize and respect our relationship with the community of Akwesasne and solicit their opinion concerning Cornwall’s desire to enter the world of gambling. the This of course would be wholly dependent upon the taxpayers and their appetite and stomach to proceed. How do we best determine to succeed? Council requesting funds to conduct a study? How about a dysfunctional council simply putting it to a voting matter? I believe that an issue having such strong arguments on both sides as a casino also has the capacity to divide a community.… Read more »

I agree with Marc L, we had a chance years ago to apply for a casino. That ship has sailed. OLG will NOT grant a casino license to Cornwall. That was made very clear to the city the last time proposals were submitted. Does city council think just because they submit an application it will be considered. Sorry, no. Just because city council changed in November that doesn`t give them the right to reapply again. It was turned down once by city council. Enough is enough. We have a casino across the river, the Gananoque casino 1½ hrs away, one… Read more »

I’m not against a casino in Cornwall, maybe even on the old Domtar site, but I do not under any circumstances want Brock Frost involved in this venture.

Resign, Brock, resign!!!

This “hacked email” from anyone who wants to deny doing something is getting real old real quick.

Agreed. City council meetings are B-O-R-I-N-G. And Brock has shown that he doesn’t care what the citizens / taxpayers say or do.

Along with the “hacked email” the next irritating thing to hear from a person in power or celebrity is “my comments were taken out of context.” Why can’t they just admit that they did it and say they’re sorry? Or would that mean they’re actually human and on our same level?

I agree. But I didn’t vote for Brock. City council and government in general has shown that they don’t really care about what the citizens think. And people wonder why there is so much voter / citizen apathy.

So, according to TVCogeco he did send the email saying he was resigning, but then had a change of heart. So the “hacked email” story was a lie.

Frost also admitted the Quebec police charges of fraud and forgery are real and he is defending them. He’s back in court in October.

Is this someone we want as a councilor?

This isjust a fantastically stupid notion, as is confirmed by the fact that Brock Frost is peddling it. Come on Cornwall this is not the path to prosperity or the way to pull the community out of the mill filth and mill mentality.
Perhaps a $50,000 dollar or so consultant’s study is in the wind?
Even Professor Harold would roll his eyes at this scam.

Admin. …I agree with your statement of 8:15 p.m. Luckily (I think) I did not vote for him.

I used to care. However after seeing so many important issues be handled by council with NO regard for what the citizens say, you lose faith in democracy . Example: the fluoride in tap water issue. There was a petition and small protest, but council takes the word of buddy at E.O.H.U who say it’s 100% safe. So they ignore the people. And does anyone really believe they will take the chem tanks out? They can’t even figure out who knew about it. And they will keep passing the buck. They’re just going to throw hands in the air and… Read more »

I agree with Jerry, I think that he just nailed why the voters do not come out in big numbers or show up to protests

Thank you Marry. Those are only a couple quick examples.

I think Jerry hit it right on the head.

Who wants to vote for blobs of wax in a wax museum and that is all they are since they have no vision at all whatsoever. You want tourists bring back your long lost Voyageur Bus, your VIA train that went via to nowhere. Put buses for people who reside in the counties to go to and fro to Cornwall and back and get the counties amalgamated with Cornwall like all other cities and towns across the country. Cornwall is so mighty isolated and nothing for people who don’t drive. If it were not for Upper Canada Village as a… Read more »

Jules….please tell us how you really feel.

All valid points. But amalgamation has sailed its last port in Ontario.

Buses to and from the counties to Cornwall? Who should pay for this? The service may be needed, but does not make economic sense. No private company will do it and if the city / counties ran it it would be a money pit.

There is a bus service from Cornwall to Brockville already…..MegaBus….the Hwy 2 option would never fly with any bus company wanting to make money.

The only way Greyhound and / or Via will return to their previous levels of service is if the need is there. They are not going to operate services that cost them money.
