Another Mass Shooting in the US – A Gun Control Solution by Jamie Gilcig DEC 4, 2015

Another mass shooting in the US of A.    Sadly our neighbors to the South are entrenched in a head space that never will be resolved unless those that wish to take action.

The question is whether there are enough Americans that actually want to take action.

This writer will not detail any of the shootings that have occurred in 2015 as there simply isn’t enough space.

Gun Control needs an entirely new approach and here is mine as someone that has lived and enjoyed the US, but now is nervous even when I visit Massena!

You cannot take guns away from Americans.  That is a hot mess nobody will ever traverse, but you can use long term planning.

First you announce that Americans have one year to register for guns as per the current laws.    After that time the game changes.

Allow those who have registered to retain their guns for the life times.   This solution will take generations but it will get to a point that could never else occur.

Those guns would either have to be neutralized or turned in after the passing of their owners.

New gun registration after that year would not be allowed unless necessary based on clear guidelines.   (IE immediate security needs or temporary)

Put in strong new laws about the owning of ammunition and make it an offense to hold more than a certain amount.

These limits would also include police and military.   Restrict the ammo and use of weapons as much as possible like in the UK for example.

No system will ever be fool proof, but change will take time and if you don’t take those first steps you will never arrive at your destination.   It takes time for people to change how they think and direct confrontation isn’t always the best solution.

Most gun owners are responsible, but the more people that are armed the more people will feel the need to be armed.

Good guys for fear of the bad guys and bad guys for fear of the good.

How many times will we hear outbursts after these shootings that simply fall on deaf ears with nothing changing?

It’s time America.   It’s your call.

  1. To think, this shooting could have been averted if only the shooter,s neighbours had had the guts to report their suspicious activity to police & did not for fear of being called racists or bigots

  2. A good idea. But the bad guys will always find a way to get guns and ammunition. There is no easy solution.

  3. Mary Bray….there is a totally different mentality in the U.S.A. when it comes to gun control. We don’t know for sure that the shooter’s neighbours even knew they had rifles, guns, etc.

Yes Hugger, but it’s a matter of probabilities and attitudes. You might not be able to eliminate certain issues, but you can certainly take steps to reduce them.

  5. As Warren Kinsella pointed out on his website a few days ago, there were 351 mass shootings (four or more victims) in the last 331 days.
There are now more privately owned guns in the USA than there are people.
The carnage will continue as long as the gun lobby (NRA) has its way.

  6. They can ban gun ownership all they want. But people wanting guns will always find a way to get them. And having the NRA in the U.S.A. means gun ownership will never be banned.

  7. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that in a population that’s armed to the teeth, lot’s of people will get shot.

  8. Well Janie all i can say is this “I am glad you are not in charge of public safety. . Such knee jerks would in the end feel good but cost more innocent people their lives, as it does nothing to address the root cause of the problem. Criminal misuse of illegal firearms and mental health issues. Stick to what you do best… annoying the council of Cornwall

  9. Let’s pass a law for Furtz banning gun ownership. Worked really good for France ,eh Furtz?

I tend to agree with Hugger1.

Furtz in recognizing that it doesn’t take a genius (as you stated) how do you explain Switzerland?

  10. Furtz feel free to end you need for sarcasm in dealing with responding to my opinions. You could simply agree to disagree, your choice.

  11. Jamie the ones who did the shooting in San Bernadino CA were terrorists of ISIS and I said hat before but I don’t think that you printed it. My husband read that in his papers this morning and I figured that out a long time ago before anyone. Anybody who thinks that women cannot shoot or be among the terrorist gang I have a question for you WHAT WORLD DO YOU LIVE IN? This couple went through security checks and were issued permits to purchase weapons. Just some days ago two women attending a university in Vancouver B.C. – one stabbed the other in the face with a knife. Today people are literally nuts and violent and what is going on in this insane world run by Satan is not for me and I wish that I never saw it. People kill people not the guns nor the knives, etc. but people are being influenced by Satan and yes Satan sure does exist.

  12. In the US the authorities are having debates over taking away the second amendment which is the right to carry guns. Let them try to get the guns away from the Texans and they will be met with a herd of bullets. The ones who did the shooting in California were terrorists and if you can tell a terrorist from an ordinary person then you would have outdone all police institutions, etc. on earth. Nobody can say who is who at all just like the Syrians and others that the US, Canada, Europe, etc. want to bring in when there are tons of terrorists among them. Europe does not have guns and the people still continue to kill one another whether it be guns, knices or their bare fists. This is Satan (the devil’s world) not mine.

  13. “Gun Control needs an entirely new approach…” – never happen. It is not a gun control issue – the disarming of Americans. It is a Islam ideology control issue!

  14. The mass shooting in San Bernardino, CA was done by supporters of ISIS, not ISIS soldiers. The U.S.A. needs to take a serious look at their gun laws, etc. Currently people on the n”no fly” list can buy guns. Does that make sense?

  15. David, I think the topic is the mass shootings that occur almost daily in the USA. And when did I advocate for the banning of gun ownership? I’d be all for restrictions on who can possess guns and the types of guns permitted.
I hope you aren’t offended by this comment. If you are, I sincerely apologize.

  16. So criminals, extremists and Islamic terrorists should be prohibited from owning guns or bomb making ingredients. Good luck with that line of thinking.

  17. There are many westerners who are being brought into this mighty sick ideology and they get them through the net and other means. People who used drugs of any kind whether legal or illegal are easily influenced as well as those who play violent video games and others as well. I would love to see armed cops (real cops not the BFPD) but real cops as well as the army all over the streets of every city and town with machine guns in hand and something has to wake up the people who are asleep on this because all hell is going to break loose if something is not done. This is mighty serious stuff and I am sick of all the insanity going on in this mighty crazy world. I know of one thing for sure is that I don’t belong in this insanity at all. God Help Us All.

  18. David, even you should realise that when a twenty year old like Adam Lanza, with known mental issues, can have legal access to high power semi-automatic rifles and hand guns and limitless ammunition, there is something seriously lacking with the gun control laws in the good ol’ USA.

I don’t think anyone really supports the status quo, even many gun owners, but if you don’t take a first step, even if it’s a baby one you will never achieve any results.

I think it’d be naive to suggest you could ever truly limit incidents, but you sure as heck can reduce the numbers over time.

Doing nothing is not a solution at any level. The plan I floated would pretty much eliminate the angst and take the sting out of heading towards a better place even if it took a generation or two to get there.

  20. Jamie, the problem in the US is that any attempt to limit gun ownership or gun violence is considered to be an attack on freedom. Maybe it’s simply a case of “thinning the herd”.

  21. Author

That’s the whole structure of what I wrote about Furtz ol chum. I know that the living and current gun owners will not reliquish their guns. I’ve went to school in the US and lived there.

But if you draw a line and say fine, you keep your guns, but you’re the end of the line that takes some of the heat out of the debate. That’s a working point to start from. Even if it takes another 50 years to balance the US with the rest of the West it would be progress.

  22. I agree Jamie. At least it would be a start on the long journey towards sanity. In the meantime, the carnage will continue for the foreseeable future.

  23. The government is probably in no hurry to take away the “Right To Bear Arms” since the government is rarely the target of gun toting crazies, who generally target each other, and regular folks going about their business… that might change if the government suddenly became a threat.

If the government moved to seriously restrict gun/weapon ownership, they would likely become the new target.

And it wouldn’t be a few Bushmasters or even an AK47… American weapon nuts legally sport a full armoury of weapons, from rocket propelled grenades to flame-throwers and more.

Plus, there are more private and secret militias in the USA than in Syria and the rest of the middle east combined.

  24. There is a huge difference between some nutcases whacked on drugs whether legal or illegal and one who does terrorism. You have to separate the two because they are entirely different. This kind of thing can happen anywhere and does happen everywhere even in countries that are disarmed. The evils of society always find a way of getting guns, drugs, etc. I believe in the army on the streets armed to the hilt. “Just Watch Me” is what I believe in.

  25. I remember when a certain bacon factory suddenly laid off over four hundred people with no notice. People were angry, sad, crying and very upset. People cursed the company and some went home to get drunk, stoned, red faced and let loose. Not one person went home and grabbed a gun to return. Canadians have more guns per capita than Americans. Certainly there are lots of guns in rural Cornwall and area. So, lets note Americans and Canadians have a different mentality when it comes to firearms when they are shocked, upset, enraged and feeling wronged. It’s not all us.

  26. When I put on these jalabiya my husband calls me Homanie’s wife. LOL LOL. ROLF! All I need is something to cover my face and head and just leave my eyes popping out to scare the living hell out of him. LOL LOL. ROLF! The way I am dressed I look like the real thing. LOL LOL. ROLF!

  27. I heard that the state of California has stricter gun laws than Canada in place. So why didn’t such restrictions stop these recent acts of violence? In the vain attempt of society to handle such violence, we are forgetting guns don’t kill people, people kill people. Just like in abortion, the method of death doesn’t kill the unborn, it is his or her parents that are doing the killing.

And since religion, psychology, secular humanism, philosophy, and all other man made ideologies can not change the violent heart of a sinner, gun control is all that is left. But let us be reminded, this is normal for society to fail because it has rejected the true and living God, and His Son, whom He has sent to save sinners from such hatred towards God and one another.

God’s solution back in the days of Noah – send a world wide flood to execute, to wipe such off the face of God’s earth – men, women, boys and girls. See, God knows the wickedness and depravity of the human heart controlled by sin. Dear ones, there is a greater judgment than Noah’s to come!

During the Great Tribulation period which the book of Revelations unfolds writes – “And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts” (Rev 9:20 – 21). Even under the worse of judgment, they will not repent. They can’t, they won’t. Only the grace of the new birth can change a heart of stone into a heart of flesh –

“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them”(Eze 36:26-27).

  28. California has stricter gun laws than Canada in place? I think that talking snake is telling nose-stretchers again.
