Suspicious Fires in South End of Ottawa

 

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service is investigating two suspicious fires in Ottawa’s South End.

Patrol Officers attended a call for service at 9:10 am on Sunday, February 28th, in the 1200 block of Walkley Road where a home was on fire and a male was seen leaving the area in a van.  The Ottawa Fire Service (OFS) attended and suppressed the fire.  There were no injuries but the fire caused substantial damage to the home.

Patrol Officers attended a call for service at 12:45 pm on Sunday, February 28th, in the 4100 block of Leitrim Road where a home was on fire.  The Ottawa Fire Service attended and suppressed the fire.  There were no injuries but the fire caused substantial damage to the home.

Both fires were deemed to be related.

A male suspect, 78, was identified.  He was arrested in his vehicle at Highway 417 at Pinecrest Road later in the afternoon without incident by West Patrol officers.

The Arson Unit with the assistance of the OFS continues the investigation.
