Sexual Assault Pop Can Throwing & Fire Threats in Cornwall Ontario MAY 3, 2017

BREACH

Cornwall, ON – A 53-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on May 1st, 2017 and charged with breach of prohibition order for using a cell phone and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged the man breached his conditions and police were contacted to investigate. On May 1st, 2017 the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on June 22nd, 2017. His name was not released as the conditions stem from a domestic incident and would identify the victim in the matter.

SEXUAL ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – A 20-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on May 1st, 2017 and charged with sexual assault. It is alleged on April 29th, 2017 the man inappropriately touched his sister and police were contacted to investigate. During the investigation the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

ATTEMPT MURDER, ARSON, THREATS, THEFT, SEXUAL ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – John Sawatis, 37 of Cornwall was arrested On April 30th, 2017 and charged with the following:

  • Utter threats of death
  • Utter threats to burn property
  • Attempt murder
  • Arson-Disregard for human life
  • Arson-Damage to property
  • Sexual assault
  • Theft

It is alleged on April 27th, 2017 the man threatened to burn a house while the occupant was inside and in the early morning hours of April 28th, 2017 started a fire at the Louisa Street address.

It is also alleged on April 29th, 2017 the man sexually assaulted a 23-year-old woman known to him and threatened to damage her boyfriend’s vehicle. On the same day the man took another person’s car without permission. As the result of ongoing investigations the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – Angela Pettinicchio, 39 of Cornwall was arrested on May 2nd, 2017 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the woman failed to attend court on November 24th, 2016 for fraud related charges and a warrant was issued for her arrest. On May 2nd, 2017 the woman was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant and released to appear in court on June 6th, 2017.

ASSAULT, THREATS, ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON

Cornwall, ON – A 48-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on May 2nd, 2017 and charged with assault, assault with a weapon and threats. It is alleged during arguments on January 1st, 2017 and April 30th, 2017 the man threatened his wife, punched her in the nose and threw a pop can at her. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On May 2nd, 2017 the man attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – A 24-year-old Snye, QC man was arrested on May 2nd, 2017 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the man failed to complete a term of his sentence for a second degree murder charge and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On May 2nd, 2017 a member of the Cornwall Community Police Service attended the Valleyfield Courthouse as the man was in custody on the strength of Cornwall’s warrant. He was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as the sentence stems from when the man was a young person and is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
