#OPP FIRE KILLS 1 on HOWE ISLAND Rd Near Kingston MAY 20, 2017

(FRONTENAC ISLANDS, ON) – On Sunday May 21, 2017 at approximately 6:00 a.m. the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Leeds County Detachment, along with Kingston Ambulance were dispatched to Howe Island Road, Howe Island in response to a fully engulfed residential structure fire that was being fought by Wolfe Island Fire Department.

Police and fire were informed that two occupants were known to have been in the residence and only one occupant was accounted for.  At approximately 10:00 a.m., a 73 year old male was located deceased. His identity will not be released until next of kin notifications have been completed.

The Leeds County OPP Crime Unit will be continuing with the investigation with the assistance of the Office of the Coroner, the Ontario Fire Marshall and the OPP Forensic Identification Unit (FISU). The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

The investigation is still in preliminary stages and an update will be only provided when more details are available.
