Ottawa Police ALERT Suspicious Fires in Vanier JUNE 5, 2017

Suspicious Fires in Vanier

(Ottawa) — Ottawa Fire Services, together with The Ottawa Police Service, are advising the public of a series of recent suspicious fires in the Vanier area

Homeowners are encouraged to either bring in recycling and garbage containers or place them out of sight as the targeted locations have had fires started in recycling and garbage bins adjacent to homes.

Starting June 5th to June 12th, Ottawa Fire Services will visit homes throughout the city as part of their annual ‘Wake Up and get a working smoke alarm’ program, which ensures that smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms are present and in working condition.

Homeowners who do not have any working smoke alarms may have one installed for them, or be provided with new batteries, or information on how to acquire one.

Visits will take place between 6 and 8 p.m. on weekdays and between 2 and 4 p.m. on weekends. Firefighters will be in uniform and residents are not obligated to provide them access to their home. This is a courtesy call only.
