Social Media Chatter Leads to #OPP Visit to Perth and District Collegiate Institute 032318

OPP INVESTIGATE ASSAULT AT HIGH SCHOOL

 

(TOWN OF PERTH, ON) – Officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) supported by Detectives from the Lanark County OPP Crime Unit are continuing to investigate an assault involving students from the Perth and District Collegiate Institute (PDCI).

 

At 11:30am on Thursday March 22, 2018 officers were called to the High School located on Victoria Street in the Town of Perth.



During the course of the investigation the officers received further information of a threat to students. The officers were able to establish the source of the information and determined that the reported threat was unfounded.

 

Social Media platforms provide individuals with an audience with whom they can express personal opinions which generate online discussion and comment.

 

Lanark County Detachment Commander Derek NEEDHAM said “We aware that there has been significant information being shared on social media that, although inaccurate, has caused some concern for students and parents. To provide a degree of comfort to students attending classes today, uniformed members will have a presence at PDCI”
