#CCPS Cornwall Police Deem Poirier Furniture Montreal Road Fire SUSPICIOUS 072718

MONTREAL ROAD/ ALICE STREET FIRE UPDATE

Cornwall, ON – Shortly after 6:40 pm on July 26th, 2018, the Cornwall Community Police Service assisted the Cornwall Fire Department in responding to an active fire at Montreal Road and Alice Street.

The Cornwall Fire Department has deemed the fire to be suspicious in nature and as such, the Cornwall Community Police Service will now be taking the lead. Members of the Criminal Investigations Division and Forensic Identification Unit are on scene conducting an investigation.

The Cornwall Community Police Service is continuing to ask motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area to allow for police to continue the investigation. We would like to thank the public for their cooperation and patience during this time.

  1. Yes that fire sure is suspicious and I was hinting at that Jamie in my post and I don’t know if you posted it. I was talking to hubby about it and he said that is sure sounds like someone set the fire if they couldn’t sell it or cost too much to repair or to keep going because of the taxes, utilities, etc. Poirier Furniture has been in operation forever.

    Jules it sure looks like a large now empty and ripe for development section of prime real estate in Cornwall….If we see the usual suspects develop a new condo building the optics will really enforce that kind of thinking….

  3. Wasn’t it just 2 years ago that the same darn “business” caught fire? Hmmm… If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again?

    Simon to clarify it was the multi unit residential building that caught fire two years ago and initiated the new fire.

  6. I’d like to see Poirier Furniture rebuild on the same site with a larger store. That would put the screws to some who think a condo should go there. A condo would never fly in that part of Cornwall. Wakey-wakey!!
