Moist Kilts at Glengarry Games as T Storms Descend in Cornwall Area 080417

Cornwall Ontario – Rain and T Storms are in the forecast for Friday night and into Saturday as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to visit the Highland Games in Maxville on Saturday.

Up to 40mm of rain are expected by Sunday as temperatures drop to below 20c making for a wet cold weekend for revelers.

The T Storm alert extends from the Quebec border to Morrisburg.

Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:

  • Cornwall – Lancaster
  • Maxville – Alexandria
  • Morrisburg – Long Sault
  • Winchester – Newington

Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, damaging hail and torrential rain.

There is the potential for severe thunderstorms to develop late this afternoon and this evening.

Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
