FREEZING COLD ALERT for Cornwall Ontario -28c 9:15 AM Dec 27, 2017

Cornwall Ontario – Brr!   Did your car start?   Cornwall is in for a week of freezing temps as we’re hit by an Arctic Vortex!

Expect lows near -30c into New Years as it will stay cold and sunny for nearly a week!



Please limit your pets time outside as their toes can freeze fast at these temperatures.    Beware icy road conditions, even if it looks clean, ice can impact stopping distances.

Extreme Cold Warning in effect for:

  • Cornwall – Lancaster
  • Maxville – Alexandria
  • Morrisburg – Long Sault
  • Winchester – Newington

A period of very cold wind chills is expected.

Extreme wind chill values of minus 35 or below were reported in some areas this morning. Wind chills will moderate during daytime hours. However, tonight wind chill values are again expected to be minus 35 or below.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
