Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 137 calls for service during the 24 hour period starting from 5:00 a.m. on February 12, 2018. Of these, 91 calls occurred in the city central area, 28in the west end, 2 in the east end, and 3 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

  • 9 motor vehicle collisions
  • 3 parking/vehicle complaints
  • 5 driving complaints
  • 2 traffic concerns
  • 11 suspicious activity calls
  • 2 trespass/prowler calls

There were 10 individuals arrested within the last 24 hours including 7 men and 3 women, between 21 and 46 years of age, for the following: assault, assault with a weapon, utter threats, forcible confinement, mischief, public intoxication, breach undertaking, and breach probation. Four persons were arrested on warrants.

Brockville Man Charged with Defrauding Kingston Bank over $4700

A 33-year-old Brockville man has been arrested after defrauding a Kingston bank of just over $4700 in the spring of 2017.

In May 2017 the Kingston Police Fraud unit began investigating the bank fraud. The account owner, a Brockville woman was identified, and with the assistance of Brockville Police the accused was identified through surveillance video.

The investigation revealed that the accused and the account holder had previously worked together and were involved in a relationship in 2016. In April 2017 the accused convinced the account holder he was not eligible to open a bank account due to his banking history. The account holder agreed to open an account at a bank in Kingston in her name on his behalf, so he could deposit work cheques. Unbeknownst to the account holder, the accused had stolen a book of her cheques and began depositing forged cheques into the new account. The accused also made multiple cash withdrawals and debit purchases against the new account. The total loss was stopped at just over $4700 when the account was frozen by the bank.

The accused whereabouts were unknown and a warrant was requested.

On February 10, 2018 Kingston Police picked up the accused who had been arrested by Brockville Police. The accused was transported to Kingston police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing.

The accused was charged with fraud, possession of stolen property, and utter forged documents.

Man Threatens Spouse with Knife over Cellphone Dispute

A 29-year-old local man has been arrested after threatening his spouse with a knife during an altercation over her cellphone on two separate occasions.

On February 11, 2018 at approximately 7:00 p.m. the accused and the victim became involved in an altercation when the victim reached for his pocket, believing he had taken her cellphone. The accused responded by hitting her hands with his fists before grabbing a knife and making jabbing motions at her. When the accused eventually put the knife down he grabbed the victim by the throat before retreating to the basement. A short time later he came back up and head butted the victim, causing injury. He then tried to prevent her from fleeing the residence.

The incident was reported to police the following morning by the victim’s family. Further investigation revealed a similar incident earlier in the month. An argument over the accused taking the victims phone led to a physical altercation where the accused grabbed a knife. The accused then made a death threat while jabbing the knife towards the victim.

On February 12, 2018 at approximately 2:30 p.m. the accused was located at his residence and arrested. He was transported to police headquarters and held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with three counts of assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, utter threats, and forcible confinement.

Man Arrested for Assault after Bragging to Witnesses

A 21-year-old local man was arrested for assault after he punched the victim and then allegedly bragged about it to witnesses.

On February 10, 2018 at approximately 5:30 p.m. the victim was with friends at a downtown coffee shop on Princess Street. The accused who is known to the victim came in and invited him outside for a smoke. Once outside the accused punched the victim in the face, causing him to fall and suffer minor injuries. The accused then went back into the restaurant where witnesses reported he bragged about the assault before leaving.

On February 12, 2018 the accused was located at his residence and arrested. He was transported to police headquarters where he was later released with a future court date.

The accused was charged with assault, and three counts of breach probation.

Officers Pull Four Wanted Persons off the Streets in 2 Hours

On February 12, 2018 within the span of two hours, officers located and arrested four wanted persons.

At 11:37 a.m. a 33-year-old local woman was arrested on a warrant for breach recognizance. At 11:41 a.m. a 45-year-old local man was arrested on a warrant for failing to appear in court. At 11:55 a.m. a 38-year-old local man was arrested on a warrant for parole suspension and at 2:05 p.m. 31-year-old local woman was arrested on a warrant for two counts of breach recognizance.

Police Asking for Assistance to Identify Shoplifter

On January 26, 2018 the suspect attended a store in the 1100 block of Princess Street. While in the store the suspect concealed several small items of merchandise before leaving without paying. The suspect was last seen fleeing the area on a bicycle.
