Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 157 calls for service during the 24 hour period starting from 5:00 a.m. on May 3, 2018. Of these, 113 calls occurred in the city central area, 29 in the west end, 6 in the east end, and 3 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

There were 15 individuals arrested within the last 24 hours including 10 men and 5 women, between 15 and 47 years of age, for the following: assault, arson, sexual assault, mischief, leave accident scene, possession of stolen property, theft, fail to appear, breach recognizance, and breach probation. Three person were arrested on warrants.

Wanted Man Arrested after Approaching Officer for a Boost

A 29-year-old local man is facing multiple charges after he damaged the complainant’s property and then intentionally rammed her vehicle.

On April 28, 2018 at approximately 5:00 p.m. the accused and the complainant began arguing over the status of their relationship while in her vehicle. During the argument the accused stomped on the complainant’s cellphone, slammed the vehicle door on the phone, and then smashed a mirror that had been given to the complainant by a family member.

Sometime later the complainant was on her patio at her west end residence when she observed the accused pull into the parking lot. The accused then backed up at a high rate of speed and smashed into the front of the complainant’s parked car causing extensive damage. The accused drove away and police were called. The accused whereabouts were unknown and a warrant was issued.

On May 3, 2018 officers responded to an unrelated call at a business on Front Road. On arrival the officer observed a male in a damaged vehicle with the hood up. The male approached the officer to enquire about a boost for a dead battery. The officer identified the male and found he was the wanted party from the April 28 incident.

The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with three counts of mischief, and leave accident scene.

Investigation Uncovers History of Partner Abuse after Man Bites Son

A 37-year-old local man is facing multiple charges after police investigate him for biting his young child and then discover historical incidents of assault and sexual assault against his ex.

On April 30, 2018 the victim discovered the accused had bit their son with enough force to leave a bruise. The incident was reported to police and Detectives in the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse unit began an investigation. Detectives learned about the assault on the child, but further discovered that the accused had assaulted and sexually assaulted the victim on multiple occasions since their relationship ended in December 2017.

On May 3, 2018 the accused was located at a north end address and arrested. The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with four counts of assault, and sexual assault.

Kingston Police want to let victims of sexual assault know that it is their choice to disclose the incident to police. If you have been sexually assaulted or abused and are uncertain what to do, please attend the hospital and see the caring and compassionate staff at the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence clinic (SADV). The staff can help you with counselling and coping strategies in addition to providing testing for sexually transmitted diseases and providing access to HIV medication. If you are willing the staff will also complete the sexual assault evidence kit. Evidence can be collected up to twelve days following a sexual assault. Depending on the circumstances it may be possible for DNA evidence to be obtained from clothing after it has been washed. Your confidentiality is guaranteed and police will only be contacted by the hospital if you request it at the time. The SADV clinic will store the contents of the kit for a preliminary period of 6 months which offers a victim time to gather information on the process and decide on how they want to proceed.

Youth Arrested after Assaulting Father and Lighting Fires in Residence

A 17-year-old local youth has been arrested after punching his father and then starting fires in their home.

On May 3, 2018 at approximately 12:30 p.m. the complainant confronted the accused over making a mess in the bathroom of their west end residence. The accused responded by punching the complainant in arm multiple times. The complainant retreated to his bedroom, but a short time later emerged to discover the accused had started two fires in the home. A paper-towel role and a plastic plant had been set on fire. The complainant was able to put out the fires. The incident was reported to police and officers attended the residence.

The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with assault, and arson.

Kingston Police Warn of Suspicious Persons Begging for Gas Money

Kingston Police want to alert citizens to suspicious activity regarding men begging and pleading for money to buy fuel.

Reports have been received of two men that have approached citizens in local parking lots and even attempted to stop motorists on Highway 401 ramps. The behaviour of the men is distracting as they frantically yell and plead for money to buy fuel. On some incidents the men have offered jewelry as collateral if the citizen will go to an ATM machine to get money. The jewelry is believed to be fake and in one incident the men put the fake jewelry on a citizen and then it is suspected they removed her jewelry.

The suspects were described as West Asian in appearance, with one in his 30’s and the other in his 60’s. They have been seen in a silver Mercedes and a white SUV.

The men tend to target elderly persons, but if anyone is approached by men acting in this manner, please attempt to obtain a licence plate and contact police as soon as possible.

Kingston Police 2018 Annual Awards Ceremony

This year’s Kingston Police annual awards ceremony, in recognition of milestones reached and achievements realized in 2017, was held on the 3rd of May in City Hall’s Memorial Hall.  The event featured the newly formed Kingston Police Pipe Band and was well attended and enjoyed by all those who came to receive awards and support the recipients.

Members of the Kingston Police who retired in 2017 were recognized and thanked for their many years of service to the police service and the community.

The Police Exemplary Service medal or first bar was presented to several officers (current and retired) in recognition of those who had served either 20 or 30 years with one or more police services.  Civilian members of the Kingston Police were also recognized for milestone years of service.

Chief’s Commendations were awarded to officers and civilian members of the Kingston Police for exemplary performance demonstrating use of personal resources, initiative, skill, or judgment in the handling of difficult assignments or situations not normally encountered in the course of duty, as well for as extraordinary efforts over an extended period.

Community Commendations of Merit were also awarded to several members of the community, including those who assisted in rescuing a young victim from human trafficking, those who came to the aid of an officer being assaulted, and a member of the Kingston Police Community Volunteers.

The evening also included a presentation by Workplace Medical Corp. of life-saving awards to two officers who intervened to save the life of a citizen in medical distress.
