Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 500 calls for service over the long weekend of May 18-21, 2018. Of these, 352 calls occurred in the city central area, 102 in the west end, 23 in the east end, and 9 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

  • 58 assist citizen calls

  • 6 shoplifting calls
  • 1 theft of vehicle call
  • 13 mischief calls
  • 13 fraud calls
  • 22 motor vehicle collisions
  • 1 impaired driving call
  • 3 parking/vehicle complaints

There were 27 individuals arrested over the long weekend of May 18-21, 2018 including 20 men and 7 women, between 15 and 56 years of age, for the following:

  • robbery
  • two counts of impaired driving
  • two counts of operating a vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol
  • two counts of theft
  • two counts of mischief
  • three counts of utter forged documents
  • assault
  • three counts of utter forged documents
  • breach of the peace
  • three counts of public intoxication
  • five counts of breach recognizance
  • eight counts of breach probation
  • eight persons were arrested on warrants.

Man Charged with Robbery for a Cellphone

A 40-year-old local man has been charged after assaulting and robbing an acquaintance for a cellphone.

On May 14, 2018 at approximately 10:40 p.m. the victim was walking through a parking lot off Bath Road when he observed the accused exited a vehicle. The accused came towards him in an aggressive manner and then without provocation the accused punched the victim causing him to fall to the ground. After a brief struggled the accused stole the victim’s cellphone and earphones before leaving in the vehicle.

On May 21, 2018 the accused was located at an address on Van Order Drive. The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing.

The accused was charged with robbery.

Tip from Citizen Leads to Impaired Driver Arrest

A 26-year-old Napanee man was arrested for impaired driving when officers respond to a tip from a concerned citizen.

On May 21, 2018 at approximately 2:30 a.m. officers responded to the area of Division Street and Benson Street for a report of a suspected impaired driver. The accused was located and stopped on Division Street at Railway Street. Officers made observations the accused was impaired by alcohol and the accused was arrested. The accused provided two breath samples and was found to have approximately 2.5 times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

The accused was charged with impaired driving and operating a vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol.

The accused was later released with a future court date. His driver’s licence is automatically suspended for 90 days and would face a one year suspension if convicted. The vehicle was seized and impounded for seven days, with the accused being responsible for all fees and fines.

Shoplifter Arrested after Returning to Store and Causing Damage

A 16-year-old local youth is facing multiple charges after shoplifting from a convenience store, and then returning and causing damage.

On May 20, 2018 at approximately 9:45 p.m. the accused entered a convenience store on Bath Road with several friends. The accused loaded a backpack with multiple items and left the store without paying for any of the merchandise. The accused returned shortly the staff stopped and questioned some of her friends. She began throwing items around and tipping over display racks. As the accused left the store a second time she smashed a window out of a parked car, with a small steel pry bar.

Responding officers viewed the surveillance footage and quickly apprehended the youth nearby.

The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters were she was later released with a future court date in the care of her mother.

The accused was charged with theft, and two counts of mischief.

Driver in Early Morning Collision had Over 3 Times Legal Limit of Alcohol

A 30-year-old Toledo woman was found to have over three times the legal limit of alcohol in her system after causing an early morning collision at Gardiners Road and Centennial Drive.

On May 19, 2018 the accused was placed on probation with conditions that included no alcohol. The following morning at approximately 6:45 a.m. the accused was travelling southbound on Gardiners Road when she allegedly turned left in front of a vehicle proceeding northbound on a green light. The responding officer made observations the accused was impaired by alcohol. The officer also observed a crushed can and nearly empty bottle of alcohol in the vehicle.

The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where she provided two breath samples. The accused was found to have more than 3.5 times the legal limit of alcohol in her system. The accused was charged with impaired driving, operating a vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol, and two counts of breach probation.

Man Charged with Assault after Road Rage Incident

A 31-year-old local man was arrested after punching another driver during a road rage incident.

On May 18, 2018 at approximately 9:45 a.m. the victim was driving northbound on Bayridge Drive when the accused approached rapidly from behind. The victim pulled to the right to allow the accused to go around and the accused rear-ended the victim. The accused then exited his vehicle and approached the victim. The accused was irate and when the victim rolled down his window the accused punched him multiple times.

On police arrival the accused was still irate and immediately approached the cruiser. The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was later released with a future court date.

The accused was charged with assault.

3rd Annual Home Runs for Cystic Fibrosis

The public is invited to attend the 3rd annual Home Runs for CF (Cystic Fibrosis) charity softball tournament on June 16, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Amherstview Baseball Diamonds. The tournament involves 8 teams, with a BBQ, a raffle draw, and onsite prizes to be won.

All funds raised will be donated to the Pediatric and Adult Cystic Fibrosis Clinics held at Hotel Dieu Hospital through partnership with University Hospital Kingston Foundation and Dray’s Field of Dreams. This 1 day tournament is hosted by Kingston Police Constable Josh Brimble and his wife Jenn, and is named after their son Drayden, who was diagnosed with CF at 2 weeks of age and attends the Pediatric Clinic.

Over the last two years the event has raised more than $20, 000.00 thanks to incredible community support. The funds have been used to buy medical equipment, vitamins, and other necessary items in the treatment of CF that are not covered through benefits or OHIP. Funds have also been used to help families with transportation costs when their loved ones are admitted to hospital.

There will be a raffle draw for the top prize, a signed and framed picture of Doug Gilmour and Wendal Clark. The raffle also includes a large Ducks Unlimited print of a Loon, Blue Jays and Ottawa Fury tickets, gift certificates from Tint World, St. Louis Bar and Grill, Stone City Wood Works, Amherstview Golf Course, and other wonderful prizes.

2018 Cops and Cowboys

Lone Star Texas Grill & Law Enforcement Support Special Olympics

Kington Police are excited to take part in the annual Cops and Cowboys fundraising event held at the Lone Star Texas Grill to raise funds for Special Olympics Ontario.

On Thursday, May 24th you’ll get service with a smile…and a badge. Law Enforcement Officers from various agencies will be working side-by-side with your server to bring great Lone Star meals to your table. Officers will be collecting donations which will benefit the Special Olympic programs in the Kingston area. This will occur from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for the lunch hour and from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. over dinner.
