FREEZING RAIN ALERT for the Cornwall Ontario Area Starting Thursday Night 122718

Cornwall Ontario – The River City is waking up to -20c temps as this short cold snap is about to come to an end as a warm pressure system cruises through our region bringing freezing rain, and other yucky precipitation which will turn into actual rain starting tonight and into Friday.

We expect a high today of only -10c before the rains start overnight.

Expect temps to rise to +5c by Friday afternoon.

Drive and walk safely as sidewalks will be slippery.

For the weekend things should stay warm Saturday with some mild mixed wet stuff with lots of Sunshine and colder temps for Sunday.

Freezing rain warning in effect for:

  • Cornwall – Lancaster
  • Maxville – Alexandria
  • Morrisburg – Long Sault
  • Winchester – Newington

Freezing rain is expected overnight into Friday morning.

Snow or snow mixed with ice pellets will begin this evening or overnight and change to freezing rain overnight. Freezing rain is then expected to change to rain Friday morning. However, the freezing rain may persist a bit longer in the Ottawa Valley area.

Travel may be impacted or become hazardous at times.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break.
