Cornwall ON - The Sounds of Buskerville first annual festival rang through the streets of Cornwall Ontario raising money for the United Way and treating people to some amazing local music Saturday.

Cornwall ON - There’s a lot of buzz over The Sounds of Buskerville which takes place Saturday July 24th all over Cornwall which is fast becoming the musical hotbed of Eastern Ontario.

The Sounds of Buskerville is Cornwall’s first Busker Festival.

The goal is to promote local entertainers, local businesses and fundraise for local charities. The event will take place on Saturday July 24 from 12:30 to 4:00pm.
There will be entertainment spread out all over the downtown core along Pitt Street between Water Street and 3rd Street.   Along with the great entertainment there will be face painting and games for the children!
Donations will be accepted throughout the festival. The donations will be divided 50/50 in support of The United way of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry and the other 50% will be divided up between our local entertainers.
There will be maps available on site with the times and locations of all the performers.
You don’t want to miss this one of a kind event!

The Cornwall Underground on Seaway Radio plays an eclectic mix of punk, metal, ska, alternative and indie rock music. Every show features some local music from right here in Cornwall Ontario, as well as some Canadian bands, and bands from all over the world. The focus of one show might be punk and another show might be metal. Stay tuned to hear some amazing and fun music including some local bands who you may or may not know. This is the loudest radio show in Cornwall Ontario and in the Seaway Valley.

The host of Cornwall Underground is Jason Setnyk, a local artist and music promoter who has booked hundreds of bands shows in Cornwall and Ottawa. Setnyk runs the Cornwall Underground website which has promoted local concerts and music in Cornwall since 1999, and he has produced four compilation Cds of local music. Setnyk is the co-founder of Rock the Vote, and he hosts monthly acoustic shows at Café Connectionz called Rock for Charity.

Cornwall ON - Various reports have come in that Scott Armstrong has been relieved of his position with Corus here in Cornwall Ontario.   We are waiting to confirm details and Mr. Armstrong has yet to return our missives to him.

Our lawyers will not allow us to release some of the reports received, and we always listen to our lawyers, although there was an incident of his handling of the insulting of a sponsor last weekend at Lift-Off.   In addition to his role with Corus Mr Armstrong is also president of the local Chamber of  Commerce.

It was also reported on Twitter that Mr. Armstrong was canned as GM.

GM of Variety 104 in Cornwall was let go. (working it)

UPDATE - We heard from a member of the Chamber of Commerce that if Mr. Armstrong is no longer employed by Corus that he’d have to resign as President as he’d have to apply for a new membership and then run for election.

UPDATE - The good news for Corus is they returned to profit in their 3rd quarter and posted a $31.4 million dollar profit.  Maybe some of their amazing on air talent here in Cornwall can get a raise?

Cornwall ON - The fifth Rock for Charity is going to be on Friday July 16th 2010 at Cafe Connectionz (407 Water Street) in Cornwall Ontario.

This month we are raising money for Big Brothers And Big Sisters of Cornwall & District. It’s an all ages acoustic event. Doors are at 6pm, music starts at 6:30pm, and the show will finish just before 10pm.

Bands and musicians playing are Melanie and The General Electryk, Tracy Lalonde and Matthew Bell, Geneviève Lacroix, Kerry Helmer (playing a djembe), Second Label, Tommy Heatley, and host Jason Setnyk performing as well.

Now a little bit about Big Brothers and Big Sisters: Mentoring is about the power of friendship. The volunteers and young people in these programs experience the magic of everyday moments when they are shared with a friend. Everyone needs someone to laugh with, share a dream with, and just hang out with friends it’s the little things that mean the most. Big Brothers and Big Sisters help youth.

Rock for Charity, created and hosted by Jason Setnyk, raises money each month for a different charity or non profit organizations that contributes to making Cornwall Ontario a better place. Previous Rock for Charity events have raised money for the Tri County Literacy Council, The Agape, the Cornwall Regional Art Gallery, and the Parade of Nations cultural festival.

Cafe Connectionz located at 407 Water Street is a great hub for local art, an awesome local business, and a perfect host for these events. Enjoy fair trade coffee, delicious desserts, and a great vibe!
