The Road To Coronation Street – BBC to release Coronation Street Drama – Cornwall Ontario – August 29, 2010

Cornwall ON – Bill Roache or Ken Barlow to Coronation Street fans was 27 when he started the show which is starting its 50th Season.

He’s the only remaining originally cast member. He’s gone from icon of youth for his times to being a frustrated senior who walks his dog Eccles around a lot while doting over his brood of grand children, and having the occasional fling with angst filled actresses.

The BBC which refused Corrie as a show for them all those years ago are now coming out with a drama about the early days of Corrie.

Set to be released soon Mr. Roache’s own son James will be portraying him!

It is 50 years since Coronation Street first aired. Then, it was the programme nobody seemed to want. Indeed its creator, Tony Warren, revealed at the Edinburgh Festival yesterday that he sent an early version of the show to the BBC – ‘and I’m still waiting to hear back from them’.

n later years, writer Tony Warren admitted that much of the dialogue spoken by her and her ilk was drawn from conver sations between gay men he knew in Manchester. A homosexual char acter was out of the question in 1960 but, he says, ‘some of their dialogue was too good not to use’.

Maybe that’s why so many people love Coronation Street? It goes at times in a humanistic and many times humorous way into realms rarely covered by television that resonate with viewers? I know I’ve been watching the series for over 30 years.

Here in Canada we’re about to come to the reality of losing Blanche, the crusty barb tongued mother of Deirdre, Ken’s wife. Actress Maggie Hunt passed away, but because of the delay of showing between Canada and the UK we’ve been watching her last shows wistfully.

Hopefully the CBC will pick up “The Road To Coronation Street” so that the many Canadian fans can check it out.

Coronation Street’s Jack Duckworth to be Tram Crash Victim in 50th Anniversary of Show? Cornwall Ontario – August 4, 2010

Cornwall ON – Coronation Street Legend Jack Duckworth ( Bill Tarmey) is set to be killed off by producers in their big 50th Anniversary Tram Wreck! The actor has been on the show for over 30 years, but with health concerns and approaching his 70th birthday apparently wants to spend more time with his family.

While exact details of the accident and its casualties are being kept under wraps, other characters set for the chop are thought to include John Stape, played by Graeme Hawley.

Dev Alahan, played by Jimmi Harkishin, Ciaran McCarthy, (Boyzone’s Keith Duffy) and Samia Smith’s character Maria Connor could also be victims of the disaster.

Good grief. So my fellow Canadian Corrie fans; what do you think of this mess? I’m sad that Jack and Vera were both killed off; well maybe not so much with Vera, (Elizabeth Dawn) but Jack Duckworth could be such a valuable icon to pop in and out on occasion.

Alas poor Frisky – we knew him Well…Coronation Street Cat’s Ashes Auctioned Off for $1200! – Cornwall Ontario – July 26, 2010

Cornwall ON - If you’ve ever watched Coronation Street here in Canada you’ve seen the cat in the opening credits. His name was Frisky and sadly like all good things in life Frisky went on to that great mouse house in the sky. However a collector bid on his ashes and paid a whopping $1200 for his remains.

The tabby beat 5,000 other cats to get the part in 1990 and was featured in more than 1,000 episodes of the show before he died 10 years ago at the age of 14.

Frisky was a favourite with viewers and made numerous public appearances to raise thousands of dollars for charity.

I officially don’t feel so bad owning that tiny jar of Dilithium Crystals from Star Trek and the Estate of James “Scotty” Doohan now!

Cornwall ON - Betty’s Hot Pot will still be served at The Rover as 90 year old Betty Driver will continue to play Betty Turpin, a role she’s done for over 40 years!

My Meeting with Brad Pattison by Boromir Komorowski – Cornwall Ontario – July 15, 2010

Cornwall ON – Whenever I meet someone new, my Dad always asks them to introduce themselves properly, by letting me sniff the back of their hand, so I know it’s OK for them to go ahead and pet me. So as this is the first column I’ve ever written, maybe I should introduce myself to all of you.

My name’s Boromir, although Mum and Dad usually call me Bo. I’m a St. Bernard, and for some reason everyone wants to call me Beethoven. My Dad once told me that Beethoven was a dog just like me, and he starred in a movie which everyone liked. I hope they’ll get the movie one day, so I can watch it.

My Mum is a really strange person (but you have to remember, she is human, not a dog like me). She likes to use the Internet, and she likes to watch TV. The stuff she watches on TV is really boring – stuff like CSI – Miami, the Simpsons, and those endless reality shows where all the humans there keep just repeating themselves and blaming everyone else. But there’s one program that we really like, and me, Mum and Dad watch it all the time. I can really relate to this program, because there’re lots of dogs as well as people, and this one totally cool guy called Brad Pattison, who really knows how to communicate with us dogs. He’s also really good at teaching other dogs how to communicate with our humans, so we can all live together happily. The program’s called “At the End of my Leash”, and it’s on every week on the Slice channel.

Anyway, one day last May, Mum was sitting at the computer, doing whatever she does on there, when suddenly, she says: “Boromir, how would you like to take Dad to Ottawa to meet Brad Pattison?”

“Wow! Brad Pattison? Really?” I wanted to jump on her and give her a kiss, but I knew she didn’t really like that (the jumping part, that is), so instead I said “Woof” and wagged my tail so hard I knocked something over.

So, a few days later, Dad got up at five in the morning (he didn’t like that), and woke me up, which I didn’t like too much either, but Dad told me it was OK because we were going to see Brad, and I could sleep in the car.

Then, finally, we got to Ottawa OK, and we went into this real strange building. It wasn’t like anywhere I’d been before, but I stayed close to Dad, because I knew if I was with him, he’d be safe. We went into a small room with loads of mirrors, so I could see me and Dad wherever I looked, which was awesome, and it had sliding doors. The doors closed, and suddenly I felt really heavy. I didn’t know what was going on, especially as a moment later I felt so light I thought I was going to drift up towards the ceiling. Then, all of a sudden, the door opened again. It was weird – everything had changed. And there were loads of people, and some dogs too! Was this where I was to meet Brad Pattison?

After we waited around for a few minutes, this guy comes into the room. I’ve never seen anyone so full of energy; it was a bit like watching one of those humans with funny painted faces and squeaky rubber noses, except he looked quite normal. Then I recognised him – Brad Pattison, my hero, the guy I’d brought my Dad to meet. He even did a handstand, which I thought was really cool.

None of the other dogs were allowed to play right then, so I lay down on the carpet next to my Dad and waited to see what was going to happen. Then Brad started talking. It was just awesome, listening to him tell all the humans about what we think and how we react, and I learned a lot about humans which I didn’t know, like how they really couldn’t smell like we can, and how they can get real frustrated, without meaning to, because they don’t quite know how to communicate with us.

Well, that’s enough typing for now, because it’s quite difficult when your paws are as big as mine. If I’m not very careful, I hit ten letters at once. But next time, I’ll tell you what happened with my friend Brad.

The creator of the popular MTV show of the 90′s is rumored to be in discussions to bring out 30 new episodes of the less than dynamic duo.

REVIEWniverse is exclusively reporting that B&B creator Mike Judge is currently outlining 30 new episodes of the show with “hopes for a full-throttle return.” According to the site’s “anonymous source,” Judge plans on retaining the show’s original sketches-and-videos structure, with his permanently adolescent walking ids huh-huh-ing all over contemporary music clips

Snoop Dog on Coronation Street? Is Snoop jonesing for some of Betty’s Hot Pot? Cornwall Ontario – July 9, 2010

Cornwall ON - Everyone wants to be on Coronation Street; especially for the 50th Anniversary season. Now it turns out long time fan of Corrie, Snoop Dog wants to be on too!

Snoop, who has followed the soap for 11 years, believed that Granada TV producers had responded with interest.

A spokeswoman for Granada said: “He’s obviously a great character but hard to see how he’d fit into Weatherfield.”

Heh heh, yeah baby. Snoop could be yet another of Ken Barlow’s kids that turn up on his door step. Could Deirdre handle another?

Canada’s Longest Serving Anchor Lloyd Robertson to retire from CTV – July 9, 2010 – Cornwall Ontario

Cornwall ON - My gosh Lloyd Robertson is retiring as CTV News Anchor. I’m so sad. I’m going to be 46 this month and Lloyd been around my whole life. He started his career in the 50′s and is Canada’s longest serving TV anchor.

I hope it’s his choice to retire and not some corporate spin or ratings grab. His epitomizes the word professional and class, and as rarely as I have time to watch the news I’ll miss not being able to turn the channel to his newscasts.

Click the image above to see his report on Marijuana from 1975. I know, most of you reading this weren’t alive then and I was 11! Interesting report 35 years later and shows the utter futility of prohibiting of Marijuana.

Kudos to you Mr. Robertson. You’ve earned the right to do whatever you want whenever you want when it comes to the news!
