DRAFT DAY – No Vinny Deal. JAY BO to CALGARY – Bob not Busy

No big surprises so far in the draft.

Islanders pick Tavares; Tampa Bay gets Hedman; and Matt Duchesne is an Nordique Avalanche.

Big trade so far is Chris Pronger going to Philly for two 1st Rounders and some spare parts.

Most fun, watching Brian Burke blow steam and not be able to draft up to Brayden Schenn while sticking Ottawa by drafting their pick Nazem Kadri.

The Sens, who still own Dany Heatley pick D man Jared Cowan.

Edmonton picks Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson lableled one of the fastest skaters in the draft.

bob Bob Gainey selected Louis Leblanc from Kirkland for the Habs.   He better make a big trade as I have a hunch Mr. Leblanc is not the “Big Center” the team and its fans are craving.

Roberto Luongo selected Jordan Schroeder for Vancouver.  The team and Luongo are close to signing a contract extension.

Calgary rounded out the Canadian teams 1st round picks by selecting Tim Erixon from Sweden.

It was a Swedish and Canadian 1st round with Russia being all but locked out due to concerns of players jumping to play in the KHL.  Nobody wants to burn a 1st round pick however Florida’s Russian pick, Dmitry Kulikov looks like a total stud to help cushion the blow of losing Jay Boumeister whose rights should be traded before July 1st.

It was a very predicable draft with a dearth of trades.
