150 Years for Bernie Madoff

This is such an interesting case philosophically speaking.    People are sentenced to less time for murder than for stealing money.    Was it the crime or who the victims were and the publicity of this case that drew such a penalty?

bernie L I N K “He stole from the rich. He stole from the poor. He stole from the in between. He had no values,” said Tom Fitzmaurice. “He cheated his victims out of their money so he and his wife Ruth could live a life of luxury beyond belief.”

There are even some people who consider Bernie to be a twisted version of Robin Hood..

Could you imagine the sentence he would’ve received if he hadn’t had such a good legal team?    And you know that a big chunk of that money is well hidden.

Anyone smart enough to pull this ponzi scheme off and turn himself in pretty much would’ve hidden a big chunk of the loot.

The spin offs of this case are very intersting too because any monies he paid out during the scheme are from the proceeds of crime and the government has to try and recover those monies for the victims.

His firm was so snooty and exlclusive; it reminds me of what Groucho Marx said: “I’d never want to belong to any club that wanted me as a member.”

And where are you putting your money Cornwall?
