Montreal Edges the Leafs 4-3 in OT Opener NHL ROUND UP Calgary Beats Vancouver 5-3 Heatley Bust as Sharks Avalanched 5-2 in Colorado

Showtime!  The first pucks of the season dropped last night with four games to report on.

The Leafs Fell 4-3 to Montreal.  Goals by New Comers Travis Moen and Brian Gionta were added by Glen Metropolit and Josh Gorges.   Carey Price picks up his first win of the season.    Leafs goals were scored by Alex Ponikarovsky and two by Matt Stajan.

Toronto out shot Montreal  46-27.     Big George nearly got a Gordie Howe Hat Trick, well not really, I just Big George to get one of those this year.   He did pot an assist and his first fight, and our new favorite Hab Mike Cammallieri picked up two assists.

Travis Moen fought Mike Komiserik.

Dany Heatley picked up a big -3 for the night as Colorado suprised the less toothy Sharks 5-2, and Washington beat the Bruins 4-1.

Gary Bettman is GLOATING about the NHL essentially getting control over the Phoenix Coyotes instead of Jim Balsillie.

“We got an important decision from the judge yesterday, in effect disqualifying the Balsillie bid,” Bettman said. “It’s the decision that we believed was the right decision and the one we hoped for because the two most important decisions that any sports league can make is who it wants to allow into membership as an owner, who the partners will be, and where the franchises will be located.

“That’s not something that should be abdicated to the courts because someone decides to file a bankruptcy petition. While the court disallowed our bid on some technical basis, in terms of how we treated the creditors, we’re looking at it and we will be reacting.”
